Cliff notes
I ordered this along with the double-sided DVD of the 1935 and 1952 versions of Les Miserables. I wanted to better understand this classic before I go to see the 2012 version. I believe Cliff notes are a way to get to the crux of something when time is short and the basic information is needed. Thank you for havaing this available so that I may reach my goal.

Helped me enjoy the musical
This was perfect for me to read a week before I was to attend the musical. After reading this, I knew all the characters and their motivations and all the story lines. After watching the show, I became interested in reading the book...and probably will...someday!

Anonymous Author Can't Make Up His/Her Mind
I've never bought one of these before, I thought it would help me a bit with the novel since Penguin neglected to add ANY notes on scenes or characters etc. I feel a bit at sea. This author can't even decide whether they like the book or author. On one hand, Victor Hugo is called shallow, on the other, they refer to his genius. For me, that is a contradiction if there ever was one. However it was helpful on Hugo's basic biography. It did explain its length(over 1200pgs in both French and English)and Hugo's political leanings.Maybe later in the novel when historical events start influencing characters, it will be more helpful.Fortunately I think I spent less than $10 on it.

Les Miserables Cliffsnotes
After seeing the movie, I wanted to know what was in the book and what was Hollywood. Made me realize how long the book is!

It Worked for Me
I am taking two young ladies to see the show. We are using the shorter version to help them get an over view of the story so they can follow the play more easily. The younger in 11 and did see the High School version and is eager to see the play again just because she liked the music even though she didn't understand the play itself. This helped her make sense of what she saw, even thought the book it self is still a little beyond her ability. This way we will all enjoy the play!

It is very depressing, readers will want to jump off bridges
Definetely not my cup of tea, even when I expected it.After a few pages I could not continue. Horrible !Victor Hugo man (writer) is celebrated in France- buriedin the Pantheon with national heroes. Jerry Lewis is funny.
