Presents a collection of one hundred short monologues for use by actors ages five to eight for auditions and other purposes, on topics of interest to young readers, including unfair bedtimes, making friends, and losing teeth. Review: Great Monologue Book for Children - This is a great book for young children who wish to be actors. There are lot of monologue books out there but many are no appropriate for the younger child. This book works for ages 5 through 10. I would recommend it as a book for the acting library. My First Monologue disappoints
Easy to understand and memorize. Emotions and themes are obvious enough for young children to portray. Very disappointed that most of the monologues have either an acute or slight complaining nature to them. I needed short paragraphs my young theatre class could memorize and perform. These were perfect for the elementary age. Unfortunately, upon delivery I opened the book and leafed through it, to immediately realize they are written from a child's complaining perspective. Kind of "popculture-ish" as well. Why would I want to give my class monologues only to hear them complain about their siblings, school, parents, etc? We need to foster thoughtful creativity in our kids ... we want to laugh not hear more griping!

Humorless
I bought this book for my 3rd grade daughter for monologue performance ideas for our school Coffeehouses. Her assessment? "Not at all funny and very 'Catholic.'" I found them very dry and uninteresting.

Not as good as I thought
Not as good as I thought. Too many complaints. Maybe kids at this age stage do have many complaints. But I do think everybody should be positive, including kids. After buying this book, I went through it quickly and only found 10 monologues out of these 100 good for kids.

Very basic
Very basic, not much content and monologues so short, too short for performance. Only found one or two that the children liked. Wouldn't recommend this book.
