and what innocent mind can comprehend something like THAT?
I read this book for the first time in sixth grade, and thought it was fiction. Not just the book, the entire idea of the Holocaust. I'd never heard of it, it wasn't part of my education up until that point, and what innocent mind can comprehend something like THAT?!When I discovered that this was A Thing That Actually Happened, I was horrified. But I've read this book over 100 times. My child has read it. I think it's one of the best written children's book on the holocaust that has ever been written. It's graphic, painful, but processable for a young mind. I would highly recommend it for any child ten up that is emotionally mature enough to handle the hard topic.

An excellent read
I ordered this book to pre-read, prior to my son being required to reading it for his 5th grade history class. Because he has autism and suffers from anxiety over thinking about catastrophic events, I wanted to be aware of exactly how the Holocaust material was delivered. As expected, there were some very raw parts, but nothing that wasn't at an age appropriate level. Daniel's Story, is a very straightforward, well-written fiction story that addresses a horrifying time in our history. It is an "easy" read, in that it does not take long to finish the book and the storyline is captivating & timely given some of the things that are happening in our world today.

One boys true account of the holocaust
Daniel can barely remember leading a normal life-until the Nazis came to power when he was 6.No longer allowed to go to normal public schools,or even be employed,Daniel and his family are forced out of their home in Germany and into the Polish ghetto and then begin the dangerous journey to the Nazi death camps.when two anti-Semitic boys beat up his best friend Daniel flips out.I've read many books about the holocaust, both real and fictional, but this book stands out as the best I've read-it's sad, moving, and honest.only two of Daniel's family survives the war but I'm not going to tell you which ones you'll have to read the book to find out.

sad and hopeful
This was tasked for me to read, and I don't retreat it. Though it was sad.

So glad you had this.
My son didn't let me know he had to have this for a class until the last minute and Amazon got me the book overnight, no problem. I really never read it but it looked to be rather sappy.
