When I Was Little: A Four-Year-Old's Memoir of Her Youth

Reading this book with my four year old granddaughter was such a joy. She could relate to almost every part of this story. For those of you who are put off by the car seat situation. We discussed that she had a big girl car seat not the baby kind of car seats. That did it for her, and she was not at all surprised. It gave is a chance to talk about all the different kinds of car seatsThe relatable aspects of this book, the wisps of hair and silly hair if a baby, and now the long beautiful hair that needs to be washed and brushed very often. We talked about the knots that sometimes occur in her hair, and how her mommy works the knots out very carefully. She is getting ready for a ballet recital and needs to wear her hair in a top knot,so we discussed how test would look. We talked about the found she lines now, especially pizza and chocolate ice cream. Weekdays are for treats, so she gets to have dessert on a weekend, and often her playmates and their parents go out for pizza on Friday nights. We discussed how much fun it is to be four and to talk in full sentences, to be able to run and play on the equipment at the gym. So many reasons to love being four, and so many reasons to want to be five, and a little scary. I am impressed with the book itself and really like Jamie Lee Curtis so I wanted the hardback copy, not paperback. Apparently, the hardcover is not stocked everywhere and I had to choose a seller.The book was advertised as a "bargain book" and said it might have a small mark stating this. Actually, the book came without the cover and the book itself has not got the cute picture that is on the jacket. I was going to give it as a gift and don't feel that I can do that without the jacket.To add insult to injury, it comes with the packing slip stating that it was advertised as having no jacket - I reread the description and still don't see that! They also shipped it in a bubble envelope and the corner was crunched.So, buy Jamie Lee Curtis's books but we should all probably let sellers know that we want to know EXACTLY what we are getting so we can plan accordingly. In all fairness, due to the shipping damage, the seller would probably replace it but the birthday is in 3 days so it doesn't seem worth the hassle (I am 25 miles from the post office).

Bought this over 25 years ago for my daughter…. Now I gave the joy to read it to my Granddaughter!! Beautiful pictures and so beautifully written!

These books are so well done.I have 5 grandkids all grown, they grew up with my reading them Today I Feel Silly, we now have first great grandchild she had to have that book. On the night new mom and dad had new baby girl home my granddaughter laid on the bed with her new baby and had her hubby read it to her and their new daughter.I just bought when I was little hope they treasure it also

This is a pretty dated book information-wise. The pictures are beautiful, but as an adult, I wasn't impressed. But my 4 year old granddaughter loves it. So this book, that is not meant for adults, is really better than I thought. She loves finding new things in the pictures that we didn't notice the first time through. So, I don't much care for it, but she does and that is what counts.

I just love this book! I could read the books again and again with my child with such lovely, rich pictures on each page.My child realized that she is growing up (from a baby) especially when I show her photos of her babyhood. The books helps her to relate to what she does when she was a baby. This is a fun book and she really enjoys it but, I am not sure I agree with the Privacy page...

My 3 1/2 year old really likes this book and I liked it too. There are a couple things that I had to "amend" when reading it (i.e., instead of the little girl moving completely out of a car seat, I read it so that she moved from an infant car seat to a "big girl" car seat). Very cute book and funny too.

My daughter loves this book and so do I--purchased because Jamie Lee Curtis' other book was such a hit with her. It's very topical because we are constantly referencing her being a big girl with different things and this a great way to point out how fun it is to be a big girl and how she is not a baby anymore and that is a good thing, not a sad thing, to celebrate all the milestones that she has made.
