Frostfire by Amanda Hocking
This is the first book by Amanda Hocking that I've read, and it did not disappoint. Hocking's writing is engaging, her world building is enticing, and her characters make me wish I already had the next book from this series in my hands. Now I understand why so many YA readers have raved about her books. I am definitely picking up her other YA series.Being a part of the troll tribes that live beautiful northern Canada, Bryn doesn't allow her disadvantage of being half blood stand in the way of what she wants. Being a Skojare, Bryn works harder than others to be one of the best, which is tracking. Most trackers inherit supernatural gifts from their parents, that aid them in their tracking, but not Bryn. Coming from mix blood makes it even harder for her to get her dream job, being a member of the elite guard. One of the things I admired about Bryn is how determined she is. No matter how impossible something may seem, if she wants it, she accomplishes whatever it takes to get it. She's focused, driven, and doesn't let anyone or thing stand in her way. I admire her strength, and loved that she handles her own. For as strong as Bryn is, she has her weaknesses. She's too driven to the point she's missing what's right in front of her. I don't know what was more frustrating to me, Bryn denying her heart, or the fact that I just wanted to shove her and Ridley together more often than not. These two.....The romance in this book is well written. It's the kind that you can't get enough of, and at the same time can't stop getting frustrated at. I mean that in a good way. What I love, is the little touches, and the way Bryn and Ridley would watch each other. I liked the way they would touch, and then not really touch, but their nearness would be enough to not only get my heart racing for Bryn, but I could feel the unspoken emotion heat up the page. As a reader I really wanted to shove the two together, and tell them to make out, and stop with all the dancing around their feelings. These two about killed me!One of the things that complicates their relationship is Ridley is Bryn's boss. There's no crossing the line there. Bryn is so driven in her goals, that she doesn't allow herself the time to follow her heart, and fall in love. I just wanted her to admit her feelings, though I understand why she kept them so under wraps. They have a working history, and even if it's obvious to Bryn's close friends how the two feel about each other, they can't cross that line. These two know each other better than anyone. I swear they both know how the other feels, but neither of them will push the other into admitting it. These two are so great at protecting their tribe, and fighting for their King, but neither of them knows how to fight for what they want with each other. This world is governed by rules, and as Bryn knows, there's an order to things. There's two much at risk for both, and Bryn knows that better than anyone. Secrets, forbidden love, danger, and betrayal are very much apart of this world. Bryn finds herself at the heart of all the trouble, as well as someone from her past. I found myself equally intrigued with both guys in the book, and want to know more about both of them. I liked that Hocking gave me enough about her characters to hook me, but not enough to where she gives away all of the secrets each character has.I loved Frostfire's world. Amanda Hocking has created a fabulous world that blurs the lines between the real world and the imaginative one. I LOVE that in a book. I like how reality and imagination collide in this story, and create a "what if" kind of world. I was fascinated by Frostfire's lore. I liked how believable this world felt. I liked how Hocking gives readers an understanding on Bryn's heritage and a brief history on how things work both within Bryn's world, and our world.Talk about cover love! I love the cover of this book. It is stunning. Normally I'm not a fan of seeing people's faces on the cover of books, but this cover fits the book, and the character Bryn. I also love that they included the white rabbit on the cover, which is significant in the story. This cover is the perfect fit for this story!Frostfire is the first book, in what I think will be, an exciting series. There is so much I enjoyed about this book. I want more! I have many unanswered questions I still need answers to. I'll admit that I like that Hocking didn't get all my answers in book one. If she had, I wouldn't be as eager to get book two. That ending was a killer! I NEED MORE! I can not wait for the rest of this series to be out.Whether you've read Amanda's previous books, or this is your first Amanda Hocking book, I would definitely recommend picking this book up.4.5 stars review via Mundie Moms

Where's the Fire?
**Taken from my book blog at http://booknerd0116.blogspot.com/2015/01/wheres-fire.html ***Frostfire is a clever story that has some familiar characters in it, from Hocking's previous Trylle trilogy and takes place in the same far northern/Canadian land of fantasy. This story has a "tracker" named Bryn whose job it is to find changlings and bring them back to her home in Doldastam. She is also very determined to avenge the man who stabbed her father years before. The sub story is basically about the political unrest in each of the four tribes that live in the area. The tribes are all very different and play to their various strengths. It reminds me a lot of the Divergent trilogy in how they were separated, but whether that was Hocking's inspiration, I'm not sure. Either way, there is clearly discord among the tribes and alliances are being made "just in case." I have a feeling a lot of this series deals with political agendas and things hidden among the royalty of the Kanin. However, I may be wrong. There is of course a little romance in the story too. Bryn is beginning to feel differently about her friend and boss, Ridley. He clearly has feelings for her too, even if he pretends otherwise by dating someone else. I noticed also that even though Bryn initially had a crush on another character Konstantin, but then it went away that there still seems to be a little bit of sexual tension between them. He is kind to her in a strange way and wants to protect her for some reason, though it's not really revealed why just yet. Overall, this was an easy, totally fantasy based read. It was light (well mostly...except for the boiling of babies!) fun read. I do question the title a bit because I am still unsure what it had to do with the book other than that they live in a very cold desolate area. I am looking forward to the next one Ice Kissed, due out in May.

I loved it! Frostfire is a must read, especially if you love the Trylle series.
I read the Trylle series a couple of years ago and I absolutely fell in love with the Trylle world and their characters. I mean Loki Stadd is one of my favorite book boyfriends ever. If you haven't read it then you should. However you do not have to read the Trylle series in order to read the Kanin chronicles, but if you do I suggest you read Trylle first. In Frostfire we are back in the Trylle world but this time we get to see what another tribe (the Kanin) are like. I was really pleased that Amanda went back to this world, and now we have a different perspective. What I like:I loved that Frostfire is all about this big mystery. Things are going on and they think they know who is doing it, but they have no idea whats going on. There is a big mystery going on and it is tough to figure out who is behind it and why, I loved that I was surprised at the end. I'm still trying to figure out who is involved in this conspiracy and how it will end.Bryn is an fantastic character. She works hard for what she wants, she overcomes prejudice and she can kick ass. Bryn is not perfect, she has conflicts with her parents, she has a little trouble listening to authority and she keeps her emotions locked down (maybe not so much anger). Then there is Ridley Dresden, he is Bryn boss. He has that playboy swag who is good at his job, has good looks and is a little troubled due to his past. Does this sound like anyone from the Trylle series...Loki. Yes, that same feeling I had with Loki, I am starting to get with Ridley. He just makes me swoon, I like him so much. Ridley and Bryn are frustrating me to no end in this book and I hope it improves in the next book. What Needed Improving:Absolutely nothing!Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Frostfire is just as amazing as the Trylle series. I love Amanda's writing and world building. The story totally draws me in and I love how she connected the story at small insignificat points to the Trylle series for her fans. Frostfire has mystical powers, mystery, action and romance, and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series, Iced Kissed.

Strong Female Protagonist, Trolls, Changelings, Drama, combine in this fast paced story.
The story erupted with ease sucking me in to want to find out more. Bryn's hard life had made her tough and ambitious in her need to prove she was worthy of her chosen career. She initally blames herself for not killing the man who stabbed her father and who she meets again when tracking a changeling to take back to its real family. She realises someone else is after the changeling but doesn't know why. This happens again when her friend goes out on her next job but all doesn't end well. The heat increases, a changeling die, a queen is missing and Bryn's nemesis seems to be involved in it all. At the same time she is fighting her feelings for her boss as is he for her which makes this a lovely fast paced easy read that moves quickly. It is lovely to meet some of Amanda's Trylle characters again as the Kanin story progresses. The story does not reach its expected conclusion however, hopefully that will happen as the saga continues in Ice Kissed the next book in the Kanin Chronicles.
