Review: The Godzilla of Merino Baselayers, The best at any price - Short take: This is the best quality heavyweight Merino baselayer you can find at any price point. It took a while but I finally found a heavy Merino Baselayer that is super warm, not itchy, has good craftsmanship and reasonably priced. I am very picky about the baselayers and have tried most of the more expensive brands including the ones that start with S and I. Merriwool offers similar or better quality at a much lower price with no compromises. The wool is top quality, zipper is the excellent YKK brand, and the fit is perfect with just enough room to put on another light baselayer below it. Tested it as soon as I got it and with a light windbreaker over it, I was very comfortable outside in icy cold winds. I can see it being an overkill in mild weather. Note the torso and sleeve length is a bit longer than what you would expect, so maybe size down. Review: Lightweight Merino is So Soft, Generous Length - My sweet husband is always cold at work. I bought this sweater for him and he loves it. He is 6’3” with a long torso. This sweater fit him perfectly with enough length in the arms and torso which he has a hard time finding in most garments. It is a slim fit, not much ease, and it looks great on him. It’s incredibly soft! He feels like a teddy bear when he wears it. It laundered beautifully on hand wash in my machine and I hung it over three bars on my Sheila Maid airer (if you don’t have one of these, they are fabulous!). Merino doesn’t have to be laundered too often. Just hang it out to air now and again and spot clean as needed. I think it will last a long time with this proper care. This is a lightweight sweater but don’t let the light weight fool you. He stayed toasty warm all day! He loved it so much, he said he wanted more, so I bought a blue one too. I’ll be back for a black one after I save enough for it. Maybe I’ll even get myself one!

Great shirt, I have two that I just love.
Bought this for an Alaskan cruise. One of the best apparel decisions I have ever made. Kept me warm even when a little damp. Love this shirt. It is a bit heavy, but I think for the work it's doing, It seems appropriate.

Buy Meriwool--No Regrets
This is the second item I've bought from Meriwool. Last winter I invested in a pair of "long-johns" and was extremely pleased--quality, durability, etc., were all high. And they're quite warm. There is no itch whatsoever from the wool against your skin. Same hold true for this shirt. Only caveat is sizing. I am 6'1" and shirt size is 17/17.5-34, and wear a 44-46" sport jacket, etc, and most items like this (sweaters, sweatshirts, 1/4 zips, etc) I wear an XL. I purchased an XL and am debating whether to return for a large instead. The other issue is price/value. The Meriwool is priced better than their competition, but I see no loss of quality.

Amazing sweater, problematic sizing. Advise ordering a size down, at the minimum.
Incredible sweater for a great price when you can find one that fits you. I'm a pretty standard Large (43 inch chest/33" sleeve/5'9"/fit) and when I purchased a size L 250gram top, it was skin tight. I ended up donating it and buying an XL that was super baggy (but cozy, so I kept it). I figured the sizing might be weird, so I tried again and got another L 250 gram top. This one was much better, but still snug. Then it came time to buy this gorgeous layer. 400 grams of merino wool love. Not having confidence in the sizing, I ordered two, one in L, one in XL. I tried the L on and it was larger than the XL 250 top. The sleeves alone were for an orangutan. I didn't even try the XL on. I returned those two and ordered the M, which is a split in size between my L and XL 250 gram tops. I'm keeping it. About the sweater. Soft, thick, luxurious merino wool. Imagine a super thick wool thermal. Compares very favorably (with the exception of the sizing issues) to the Sm@rt Wool products. Good stitching, Wicked long sleeves. I'm a 33 sleeve in a dress shirt and you could probably fit comfortably in this medium sweater if you have 36 or 37 inch sleeve. I suspect I will live in this sweater through the winter, both on and off the mountain. Good luck.

Warm, thick merino mid-layer
Warm 100% merino mid-layer designed in California, and made in China with Australian wool. Im 150lb 5’8 and opted for a large in order to have space for a long sleeve shirt comfortable. The sleeves are about 5” too long, but the chest width, and waist length past waist is good to prevent it from riding up. Similar to a Carhart heavy weight in the waist length

Comfortable Perfection!
Simply put, perfection! It’s soft, warm, and effortlessly moves with your body. I use it primarily for skiing and I’m never cold nor feel that my movements are restricted.

True to size, sleeves just a bit long
I was really on the fence with my sizing choice. I’m 5’11” 200lbs. I’m always in between Large and XL. Smartwool tops I wear XL. LL Bean I wear Large. I have broad shoulders and an overall tall slender build. I went with XL as I wanted room for another base layer and prefer to wear this as a sweater. The arms are probably 2” too long. I will probably hem them. For now I just fold back inside the sleeve to test. The weight is nice. More substantial than the base layers. Definitely a sweatshirt/light sweater type of weight. I’m happy with my size choice as I don’t won’t to feel constricted in my mid section. The long sleeves aren’t bothersome even if not folded. I ordered another color in the same XL after trying the first one I received. Great product.

Fits perfectly. Seems tough. Weight is 350g not 400g.
The garment is of excellent quality and workmanship. However, the weight is not 400g it is 350g. Over the next several years, I will be able to judge my MERIWOOL heavy sweater. I liked the first purchase so much I purchased 2 more.

Excellent for big necks
Body and arm fits much more comfortably than the 320g weight shirt from Meriwool, however the neck opening is gapingly large. Zipped all the way up the collar stands erect around my head almost in front my chin, I felt like Auron from Final Fantasy X.
