The best inexpensive watch you can spend your money on.
This is my 2nd watch. The part that holds the excess wrist strap down broke, but the band itself is fine. Unable to find another band, I just opted to buy a whole new watch for 16 bucks. My first watch was purchased in December of 2012. It is now December 2017, and it is still working with that same battery. I have no idea how long the watch was running when I bought it, but I would say that 5 years out of the battery is normal. This watch is great. It is light enough that I do not feel the need to take it off. It is water proof for the things I do...occasional swimming and I leave it on when I shower. I have hit this watch on numerous things like counters and it has taken a beating and the watch is without scratches and works just as good as the day I bought it. This watch can take a beating. I wish that it had a light, but that's my only thing that I would change. And this watch gets people's attention if that's your thing. I have never had so many people make comments about how cool it is, and I have some pretty nice watches. This thing has received at least 10 times more comments than all of my other watches combined. The nice thing is that I never have to worry about someone trying to steal it, as opposed to my other watches. I like the look. I like the price. I have nothing bad to say about this little watch. If you are like me and grew up in the 80's, always wanted one of these watches but did not get because they were so expensive back then, I highly recommend this. Especially if you travel to the Caribbean via cruise ship and need a good watch to go swimming with, but not want to draw too much attention to yourself and to make sure you get back to your ship in time.

A Nostalgic Arithmetic Timepiece with a Pinch of Modern Challenge
In the grand tapestry of time-telling devices, the Casio Calculator Watch of 1985 stands out as a marvel of its era, embodying the quintessence of retro tech charm. This wrist-worn gadget, more than just a timekeeper, served as a symbol of geek chic before smartphones dictated the pace of our digital lives. With its compact digital screen and arithmetic functionality, it promised the allure of on-the-go calculations—a futuristic dream for the mid-80s aficionado. However, this iconic piece of wristwear, while scoring high on the nostalgia scale, presents a unique challenge to the seasoned connoisseur. The buttons, minuscule monuments to an era when "smaller was better," demand the dexterity of a pianist and the precision of a watchmaker. One might find themselves yearning for the nimble fingers of youth as they navigate the Lilliputian keypad, a task not unlike threading a needle in the digital age. Moreover, the display, a window to the past, offers a stark reminder that what once seemed ample now tests the limits of our visual acuity. The digits, crisp in their time, now play a coy game of hide and seek with those of us who fondly remember the watch's debut. It's a gentle nudge to embrace the passage of time, both metaphorically and literally, as we squint to decipher the numbers that once seemed so clear. In sum, the Casio Calculator Watch of 1985 remains a cherished relic, a testament to the innovative spirit of its time. It stands not only as a keeper of time but as a gatekeeper of memories, inviting us to reflect on the journey from then to now. While it may challenge our adult faculties with its diminutive design, it also offers a whimsical reminder of our youthful days, when the biggest worry was whether we had enough battery life to last the school day. A classic, indeed, but one that asks us to lean in a little closer, both to see and to remember.

I've always been amazed that the little guys take hits and keeping on ...
Bought the first of three of these Casio calculator watches about 1984, when it came out!!! Bear in mind that for the next 16 years, I'd swim a mile several mornings each week and have this on my wrist to use to pace myself with. I wear it everywhere, to chop wood, throw axes, go sailing. It gets a real workout! I've always been amazed that the little guys take hits and keeping on ticking (in a manner of speaking!) It's by far the most durable watch that I've had. (I'm so rough on watches that I wear them on the inside of my wrist, Army-guard style.) In the 1984 original, clocked against WWV, gained 1.5 seconds per day, among the best of its day and sold for about $25. The battery lasted at least 5 years, better than any watch that I knew about! Today, they gain 0.5 seconds per day if you wear them about 16 hours per day & lose slightly if never worn. The battery probably does last 10 years, but I forget when I bought the watch before the battery wears out! The calculator is an excellent 8-digit one. When it overflows, the first clear only clears the overflow and leaves the digits, a feature that is very useful to those of us who might want to estimate the value of a logarithm in the middle of the woods, or find out what percentage a 4-terabyte drive will be under its nominal capacity in decimal. (Almost 10%!). So, over 30 years ago, I bought the first, bought two more for kids, two more for myself! The last is still running and is lost in the attic, or wall, or somewhere in the house. For almost a year now, we hear it beep at one minute before the hour! Contrary to some of the comments, if you carefully read the instructions for setting the time, you can set the watch to beep once on the hour! It's such a little beep that I never bothered to turn it off, even in church. Nobody seems to notice! But that's the only way that I've every had it off long enough to discover that it loses time when it cools down! Today, my fourth personal Casio arrived from Amazon and I'm looking forward to calibrating it! Each model has been a noticeable improvement from the first! DE KA5BYV

The display is TRASH. However...!
I'm of two minds about this watch and it's all because of the negative display. The main reason I purchased this watch is because I always wanted one when I was a kid. The calculator watch was akin to a Rolex in my little mind. In my adult mind, I think Casio's are better as they do more. I don't care that the Rolex second hand sweeps, pffft. Does it light up as the Casio illuminator watches do? Does it have a stopwatch, alarm, timer, dual time and other functions that many Casio's have? Okay, Rolex might have watches with Casio features. Good for them. I'm still rockin' with Casio. Anywho, I finally got my calculator watch and within minutes of unboxing it, I wrapped it back up and planned to return it. Why? Because I could barely see the display!! Dearest Casio, how dare you make a watch with this negative display and NOT give it an illuminator light feature!! Aesthetically, it rocks! But, if you want to know what time it is in the dark, you're taking your phone out cos ya certainly ain't gettin' the time from this watch. Not in the dark or low light, you're not! Everything else about the watch, I love. It's light as a feather. The band is oh so soft. I thought it would be more of a firmer plastic like my Casio Baby-G BA110R-1A. I prefer this softer plastic. Might not last as long but I only paid $24. The wallet friendly price is also the reason I'll most likely not return the watch. I used to spend that much on cupcakes every weekend. This watch will last much longer than cupcakes, is more functional and won't cause my clothes to shrink. I also like that's it's dual time. Oh, and the calculator is very easy to use. My fingers aren't that big so the small buttons aren't a problem. The color options are nice. Was happy to see (and get) one in my fave color, olive green. The good definitely outweighs the bad (the display). Would I recommend this watch? Jury's out. I don't want want anyone who purchased this watch on my recommendation getting mad at me if/when they can't read the display. If you want a cute bracelet with features, get it. If the negative display doesn't bother you, get it.

A Blast from the Past: A Review of the Casio CA53W Vintage Series
I'm a huge fan of retro-style watches, and the Casio CA53W Vintage Series is a fantastic addition to my collection. This watch is a modern take on the classic Casio C-53, which was popular back in the80s and90s. The CA53W retains the same nostalgic charm as its predecessor, but with a few welcome updates. Design and Build (5/5) The CA53W has a sturdy build quality that belies its affordable price point. The watch features a38.4mm case, which is compact enough for smaller wrists. The design is unmistakably retro, with a boxy shape, chunky buttons, and a iconic Casio logo on the dial. The watch is available in several color options, but I opted for the classic black and white combo. Functionality (4.5/5) The CA53W is more than just a pretty face. It features a range of useful functions, including a24-hour clock, alarm, and a built-in calculator (yes, you read that right - a calculator!). The calculator is a fun throwback to the original C-53, but it's not exactly the most practical feature in modern times. That being said, it's still a neat party trick. Accuracy and Reliability (5/5) As you'd expect from Casio, the CA53W is incredibly accurate and reliable. The quartz movement is precise, and I've found that it keeps perfect time. Scratch Resistance (4.5/5) The CA53W features a mineral crystal display, which provides decent scratch resistance. While it's not as scratch-resistant as some higher-end watches with sapphire crystals, it's still a significant improvement over the original C-53. In my daily wear, I've noticed a few minor scratches on the crystal, but they're barely noticeable. Overall, the mineral crystal does a great job of protecting the watch face from everyday wear and tear. Value (5/5) At around $20, the CA53W is an absolute steal. You'd be hard-pressed to find a watch that offers this level of quality, design, and functionality at such an affordable price. Overall (4.8/5) The Casio CA53W Vintage Series is a must-have for anyone who loves retro-style watches or is simply looking for a fun, affordable timepiece. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of more modern smartwatches, it's a beautifully designed and built watch that will appeal to anyone who appreciates a blast from the past. Recommendation: If you're in the market for a stylish, affordable watch that's perfect for everyday wear, look no further than the Casio CA53W Vintage Series. It's a great conversation starter, and its unique design will undoubtedly turn heads. Pros: Retro design Affordable price point Accurate quartz movement Fun calculator feature Decent scratch resistance Cons: Calculator feature may not be practical for everyone Limited water resistance (only10m) Mineral crystal may not be as scratch-resistant as some other materials Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying my Casio CA53W, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish, affordable watch with a bit of nostalgia thrown in.

It's amazing
I recently purchased the Casio Men's Vintage CA-53W-1CR Calculator Watch and I am extremely happy with my purchase. As a kid in the 80s, I always wanted a watch like this but my parents couldn't afford it at the time. Now that I'm an adult, I decided to treat myself and I'm so glad I did. The watch itself is incredibly well made and looks just like I remember from my childhood. It has a classic, retro design that brings back memories of my youth. The calculator function is a fun addition and it's actually quite useful in a pinch. The face is easy to read and the band is comfortable to wear. But the best part about this watch is the reaction it gets from people of all ages. Everywhere I go, people stop to ask me about it and compliment me on my choice. It seems to have a universal appeal and it makes me feel great to wear it. Overall, I highly recommend the Casio Men's Vintage CA-53W-1CR Calculator Watch. It's a fantastic piece of nostalgia that also happens to be a high quality, functional timepiece.

I love this watch! It is truly awesome. I wear it everyday at work. It fits perfectly on my wrist. The calculator is super handy and it keeps time well. Nice and durable. And just the right weight. Couldn’t recommend it more. And, bonus if you’re a Back to the Future fan!

Reloj retro calculadora

the dark screen is harder to read than the paler screen on the black models.
The watch is just as pictured. My husband decided not to keep it because the buttons and screen are too difficult for him to use now, at 70 years old.
