This is pure garbage.
This book is full of meaningless equations. The author obviously had no idea of the significance of his topic. I want a full refund. I threw the book in the trash where it always belonged.

Well written, intuitive, and to the point text.
Very recommendable for anyone looking for an introduction on the subject.

Nice *little book
I am a first year graduate student in physics and have just recently gotten interested in classical perturbation methods. I have read the text and have found it to be a very nice, straightforward read. Series expansions to the roots of polynomials are covered and various techniques for solving differential equations are also introduced. It is a great book and I highly recommend it! The title accurately describes the text however: the book provides only a first look at these topics. It is a great book for those like me who would like to get an idea about what perturbation theory is good for, but it is not appropriate for those looking for a thorough text.

Optimal introduction for undergraduate after calculus courses
Very didactic, ithasreally been a pleasure for me to learn from this book. Each chapter is well defined and each paragraph has a title; the author always seems to take care that to hang around with the reader and explain to him all he is going to do and why. Step by step it starts with problems the reader can solve exactly and applying the perturbation method making him confindent the results are reliable. Then the approach definitely turns to applied science students: considering very interesting phisical application, mostly from structural mechanics, it shows that they are analytically too difficult to solve where on the other hand the perturbation methods just learned can give sufficient insights and results for their practical purposes.

Good
Anyone who wants to learn basics of perturbation theory quickly can depend upon this one. Enough for the ordinary scientific worker.
