The box says ‘max load 3kg’, not 5kg. why advertise 5 kg??

It sticks best to glass and shiny surfaces like ceramic tiles. Mine haven’t damaged anything and they been up for months.

How thick is the hook need to go through a 4.5 mm hole

I am not sure I understand your question .The hooks stay on a flat surface by suction .No glue screws nails required

Can I use it to hold a corner shelf in my shower?

I don't know whether water would affect the suction or how heavy a load it can bear. It wouldn't stick to the surface I bought it for (an internal door), but is probably OK on tiles.
