Three amazing and detailed books that I loved reading!
All three of the Somersaults and Dreams books are excellent and enjoyable! They are about Ellie, the niece of a famous former-gymnast, and her life at the London Gymnastics Academy. She deals with injury, disappointment, homesickness, hope and pride - it is a whirlwind of a ride!Book 1 (Making the Grade): This is about Ellie’s move to the Academy and how she feels that she is not as good as the other gymnasts. She makes new friends, but also struggles with someone else’s spite and jealousy. This is a perfect, detailed introduction to the series that made me feel as if I was actually Ellie!Book 2 (Rising Star): Ellie desperately wants to qualify for the Junior British Championship, but is struggling to bring heart to her gymnastics. Also, there is a funny and cheeky new girl at the Academy who she quickly makes friends with. However, Ellie’s best friend is not enjoying gymnastics as much as she used to, and Ellie is getting worried about her… This is a beautiful book that made me laugh and cry and feel the heartbreak and happiness as if everything was actually happening to me.Book 3 (Going for Gold): In this book, Ellie is at National Squad Camp, but she is worried that her new coach does not believe in her. She also picks up an injury but works hard through the pain. How far is Ellie willing to go for gold? This is a thrilling end to the trilogy that made me cry because it was the last book! It kept me gripped all the way through and I could not guess what was going to happen next!Overall, I LOVED this series! It is a fantastic introduction to the world of gymnastics! I would recommend it for people aged 8+ (including adults)!
