Great Book
One does not have to be interested in Ikebana, flower arranging to enjoy this book. If one is just interested in flower arranging, this book will increase that knowledge to look at flower arranging from a different angle. The photos throughout the book are very well done, and everything within the book is explained very well. I have had this book for several years now, it is a coffee table book. I have incorporated traditional ideas that I have learned with this style of flower arranging and it has worked out well. I am happy I purchased this book. One happy customer.

Ikebana in progress
I originally read this book (cover to cover) as checked out from a library when I was working in Japan. But I was so motivated by the book to learn the art of Ikebana that I ordered this book for myself as soon as I returned home. The book has beautiful pictures and explains the steps of each design--starting with more simple arrangements and moving to more complex designs. When I got home I tried to find a class that was teaching Ikebana, but so far I have not found one. So I am still working on the beginner stage af Ikebana with the help of the lessons in this book.

Good Beginner Book
I bought this book for my mother who knows very little about the art of Japanese flower arranging. The book has lots of photos and a small technical section at the beginning to lay the groundwork. However, it is not too complicated for the average person. There are chapters for each of the four seasons with many large photo examples. The basis of the book is more about aesthetics rather than technique. It explains mostly about the mood you are hoping to achieve. In other words, it is more about the art than the science. It is a good guide for someone interested in creating simple, pleasing Japanese-style flower arrangements for their dinner parties.

It makes sense!!!!
I saw this book in a "posh" decorating shop amd then found it on Amazon for less than half price. The book is a treasure! It explains the science as well as the art of Ikebana in a format that makes sense to a Westerner. I've alread made several arrangements of which I am quite proud. The temptation to add "just one more piece" is always there but the book's guidelines keep one in check. Less is more in Ikebana and now I truly understand the why as well as the how.

great reference
I ordered this book to provide a reference for a workshop our local garden club was doing. It is very readable, with excellent photos and simple to understand explanations of the basics of Ikebana. I especially like the orientation for use in modern "western" settings, rather than traditional oriental decor. In sharing it with our instructor, she asked to borrow it to look at as well. I think it was good value for the money.

Beautiful book
I always love watching Ikebana. Finally I get some time to learn how to do it myself. This is the first book I read about this topic. It gives background information about the culture and history of Ikebana, principles of different types of Ikebana and detailed step-by-step instruction on how to arrange the flowers. I especially like the sample photos. They are simple, elegant and full of artistry.

Great book & great service by Greener Books
It's the 2nd used book I ordered from Greener Books, this one also came in great conditton. There was some sort of stain on the sleeve but I was able to remove it with a sponge. The book itself, including hardcover, binding, and pages, is in perfect condition. After an overview of there's quite a lot of discussion about techniques, and then the various styles are discussed in detail. The book aims to explain the philosophy and design approach of each style. As someone new to ikebana I personally find this very useful and interesting. There's also info on seasonal considerations and a super handy cheat sheet for conditioning various plant materials. Would highly recommend.
