Fall in love with music and movies again
This is a super clear / crisp / warm sounding system. Just perfection. Sure it may lack the deeper warmth of high end all vacuum tube system with specialized speakers the size of your largest pet, but this is just wonderful.Easy to setup. Enough options for customization. You can hook it up to virtually anything. I've hooked up my computer sound through my video cards HDMI port and it's excellent.Follow up after few days using the system:Pros:Great for movies - has all the newest audio formats for blu ray playback. You really get a great surround sound effect without having to tweak much or missing out on voice or other issue you may have run into before when using component systems. The vacuum tubes - do provide a warmer sound.Subwoofer - is great even though it's half the size and weight as my previous one. It's excellent.Subwoofer strentgh can be adjusted via remote on the fly .. yay.. great featureRear speakers - they are tiny - but powerful.Great for music too, it has 3D effect option that engages your surround sound speakers.Excellent value for the price. The blu ray player alone is about 100-150. You get 5 speakers and subwoofer.. not to mention the blu ray player is now your amplifier with vacuum tube technology - excellent deal. You'd have to spend a lot more to replicate similar unit.Cons: (cons is realy a harsh word here, lets just say.. a wish list of adjustments)The black shiny surface that all the samsung products have nowadays is really a temporary look. It's extemely prone to attracting dust and needs constant care. Perhaps a polished aluminum casing would be much better. The anynet function is great for straight forward things - like popping the blu ray disk into the player and have your TV turn on too and vice versa. However, with any sort of customization.. ie. "I just want the TV off while I listen to music through my computer" .. tends to be more complicated then necessary. Sometimes you just want to turn the TV off only and the whole things turns off .. or you just want to turn on the player.. and TV turns on.. and so on. However, I do believe the Anynet function is optional, so perhaps when I get annoyed with it enough, I will just turn it off.I did notice the rear speakers crackle once or twice when the surround sound volume was too high. I then adjusted the distance to speakers to be shorter in the settings and it seems to have gone away. Perhaps the rear speakers that could handle a bit more juice would be a good idea, because this system is mighty powerful. But still, after adjusting those settings, I could still watch movies at a pretty high volume setting without this happening again. It was already pretty loud so I didn't really have the need to push it higher to replicate the sound and blow the speakers. It Does Not Have a headphone out port :/ That's probably the biggest drawback... Only because I use it hoocked up to my computer and I'm using video card with HDMI to output the sound, so that would be a nice feature."Wireless".. well.. you somewhat save the wires from going from the front of the room to the back.. but you use almost just as much wire going from the wireless transmitter in the center of the back of the room, going to each speaker. The rear speakers should have been true-wireless system.. If it wasn't for the tube-amps , I would have gone with "wired" version"Tube amp" .. so great.. but I wish I could get more out of it.. When you listen to old jazz or other warm music.. it would be really great to adjust the warmth.. It just makes you wish it was completely tubed.Equilizer.. should have really had an option to adjust it manually on the unit. Going into settings on the screen make it difficult to adjust it because you can not always adjust it in real time. What I mean is, if you are playing a movie, or having an input other then BD it would not allow you to have that option on the screen...The whole "graye-out" , "screen-dependent" option selection is perhaps stupid-proof but really not very user friendly for people who know what they want to tweak and why.Conclusion.Even though I had a lot of "wish-list" items, this is still an excellent system. It's extremely affordable compared to the kind of money you would have to fork out to get something even remotely similar. So thumbs up to Samsung for putting the high end to the consumer line. And even though some things aren't straight forward to tweak, it IS possible. So, with a bit of effort you will still get most of your system.Bottom line.. yes.. buy it.. enjoy it.. Music sounds great... warm.. nice bass.. and movies sound BEST.. better then component system because that's what this system was made for.

Weak performer, over-priced with a pitiful bass woofer and center channel speakers
It would be ok for an apartment but it's weak for a home. We replaced the pitiful Samsung passive bass woofer with a Pioneer active bass woofer ($99) and the front center speaker with a decent one ($89) instead of the poor one they packaged into the original design, and now it is acceptable for a home surround sound. I cannot recommend the product as originally shipped to us.

Expensive, sound is great, mounting options are tough.
Bottom line: I really love the sound, and that's the idea, right?I opened the box and began to set everything up. The first thing I encountered was the remote didn't work. I tried all sorts of batteries in it to no avail. Luckily I have a Harmony remote, so I was able to add the device to that (actually a previous model because this one was so new). Later, I called support and they FedExed me a new remote with little effort on my part. Some things to note:- The rear speakers do have to plug into a receiver - they aren't standalone. In the product image, it's that skinny box to the right of the actual blu-ray player. This wasn't that big of a deal for me and actually worked out well in my basement with drop ceilings, but I imagine that could break someone's heart if they weren't aware of it.- The rear speakers have weird mounting holes. So, I purchased some mounting arms from Best Buy that have all sorts of different ways to connect to the speakers. These speakers are set up in a way that made the mounts pretty much impossible to use as intended. There is a happy ending, though - I unscrewed the back of the speaker, drilled through it and attached the mount via nut and bolt. It's actually super sturdy and probably the best way to go about it. (The only way I could find)- Switching inputs is a pain. This is probably the biggest issue for me. As I mentioned before, I have a Harmony remote. If you haven't used one of these before, you have to set up all your various tasks (Watch TV, Watch DVD, etc) via software and it handles turning everything on, what buttons do what and, of course, which inputs the devices need to be on. In the case of this player, it's not a simple click of 'Input 1' or 'TV' or 'HDMI 3' - you are forced to click 'Next Input' until you're on the input you need. This often causes the Harmony to switch to the incorrect input and I had to add the 'Next Input' button to all of my actions in order to manually find the correct one. The 'Next Input' method is really something that is normally found on a sound bar, not in a $600 surround sound system.HOWEVER, there are more positives than negatives. These reviews always end up telling the negatives, so I'll try to hit on some good things:- The rear receiver has wires with color coded plugs that run to the rear speakers, but the speakers themselves have normal red / black speaker connectors. This means you can extend the wires as needed. In my basement, I have the receiver in a closet to the right rear of the couch and I ran an extended line over to the left side.- Sound is amazing. I'm not an audiophile, but it's really really good.- Picture is amazing. I'm considering getting a new 3D TV to take advantage of the 3D capabilities.- HDMI inputs on the Blu-Ray mean you can pipe other audio through the device. I have an older TV with only 2 HDMI inputs, so this allows me to attach my cable box and Roku through the Blu-Ray and getting the audio through the speakers. If you have a TV with more HDMI, you might just pipe digital audio back out from the TV - up to you.- Apps are fine. The Samsung apps are fine - I now have 2 Blu-Ray and 1 TV from Samsung all with different app launchers. They're inconsistent and slow at times, but do the job. If you want great, consistent, fast video apps (Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO GO, etc), get a Roku.

thought the sound was thin
I purchased this because it was the same brand as my TV and other reviewers had said it was a full sound. I KNOW what full sound is supposed to be and this system does not produce it. Also, the receiver is not a standard 8 ohm impedence so you can't just switch out speakers. I think this system is is perhaps and upgrade from the stock TV sound, but if you want good sound, you need to aim higher.
