Absolutely fantastic differential, I previously had a g80 locker, and well, it did what they usually do when you put power to it. The old diff grenaded and my spider gears gave out just like the one before that. I was able to install the new detroit locker trutrac in about 6 hours, really straightforward to do it all. So far this didd has been a beast, i just let it rip and it just takes it with no issues. I hope i have a long life with this diff. It works exactly as designed, not to mention it weighs like 5 or 6 pounds more than the old carrier. More bang for your buck.

Best replacment choise for your differential rebuilds
Great replacment for GM trucks , no problems cornering on dry pavement and always locks when its supposed to . Anybody considering rebuilding their differentials this is by far your best choise . I love it and glad I went with Detroit locker

Very sturdy
No more clanking like someone rear ended you in my 2013 Silverado . No worries about governers kicking in and out , this is solid .

Just buy it! Chevy/GM still uses their G80.
As everyone has stated, the G80 sucks. This differential is amazing. One note to anyone who may read this, my diff was literally acting like a locked diff. I called Detroit. They said “you need to us Lucas HD gear oil” they also stated, “ we can’t state that certain oil manufacturers won’t work”. These are Detroit’s tech assist words. I’ve been too lazy to change out the gear oil and it only “acted up” for a few days. I own a 2004 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3. I absolutely love this diff!!

Relatively easy to install if you have all the tools to do the job. The hardest part was torqueing the ring gear bolts. It functions as advertised, almost unnoticeable when it engages & disengages. It's perfect for a replacement for the G80. I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about an affordable locker.
