The hostas arrived as dry plants. I put them in pots with potting soil, watered them and they began to grow. Easy peasy. No problems. I'd buy mail order hostas again in a heartbeat! Much cheaper than at the garden center.

I've purchased bare root plants from several different sellers in the past and have experience gardening. I was handed the plant by our mailman, immediately pulled it out of the package, since I happened to be outside gardening, and it was completely dry and brittle with absolutely no life in it. I had to be very careful even handling it as the roots were crumbling and breaking in my hands because they were so dry. To be completely clear, I have purchased many bare root hostas before and I know what they should look like. I soaked it for a bit and put it in the ground with hopes that maybe it would perk up and start growing but here we are a month later and it has not grown like several others I planted around the same time. You can see in the photo I have included that there are lines and Wells going along the roots, those should be full. To make matters worse, I wrote to the company about the issue in hopes they would reach out and absolutely no one has gotten back to me. I will not be purchasing from this seller again.

Here is the deal. Understand that if you order this you will be getting a bare root plant. It will seem like you're getting a sickly little piece of root, but believe it or not, if you take the proper care and plant it as soon as you receive it, it will grow.I actually didn't realize my plant package had arrived, as my son received it when it came and put it where I didn't notice it for three days. No matter- I opened the package to find a healthy bare root plant. I soaked it in water for about 45 minutes before planting it and put it in the ground. It was one of several bare root hostas I planted this season and it is growing quite well. Now granted- this variety of hosta will take three to four seasons to get as big and beautiful as the one in the picture, but it showed leaves rather quickly and is a wonderfully healthy plant. Right now it is still small with just five small leaves, but I know that it takes patience with new plants.Pros- Buying bare root plants is an inexpensive way to get a lot of new plants at a very decent price. If you know how to handle them, they are a great value. I got 14 new hosta this way, and all 14 have grown and 11 are very healthy and growing surprisingly fast. The others 3 are growing, but have required some special care. But that has nothing to do with this particular plant.Cons- When you see this great picture in the ad, and you get a little "scrawny" bare root in the mail, it can be a little disappointing. It takes 2-5 seasons (depending on the variety) to get fully mature plants buying them this way. I have certainly found larger, more mature plants locally from both nurseries and private sellers. if you're impatient, perhaps that is the way to go if you don't mind spending a little more money.

So glad I purchased these hostas they really add to my yard’s beauty.

growing but very small

Had this for about a month or so, its around 10 inches tall and has a nice sprawl of leaves coming in.When it arrived it had nice healthy green leaves already on it and nice roots.

I ordered a Bid Daddy Hosta which never grew. I ordered in March 31st and after 3.5 weeks I noticed no signs of life. I contacted the seller who told me to wait at least a month which I did and now they are sold out of plants??? Poor Customer Service! I will never purchase from them again. I am an avid gardener and I know the timeline for plants to grow and how to grow them. Never again.

Came up within a week .. When I received this hosta it was just the roots and I thought that there is no way it will live but it did had it about a month now and it is really pretty and seems that it will be a very large hosta.
