Better Than I Expected
I have always enjoyed Moto smartphones: Moto G4 Play, Moto E4, Moto X4 and now Moto G7. I have not had any negative experiences with Moto phones. On the contrary, I have been satisfied Moto phones and Moto G7 is no exception. I bought this for $229 (Lightning Deal) because I missed it when it was $199 (Prime day). Still at $229, this is a great phone. If you do not care about premium camera experience and latest and great processor, but just want all-around great phone for email, text, call, web browsing, YouTubing, light gaming, and decent photo shots, then this is a great choice. 1. Big screen but manageable size. A big6.2" screen but only little taller than my Moto X4 (5.2" screen). I was initially worried whether this is a pocket-able phone (I put my phones in front pocket of the pants). But I was pleasantly surprised that I could put the phone (with a case on) in my front pocket and still sit down on a chair! A 6.2" screen gives you great viewing area for many things and a tear drop notch does not bother me at all. 2. 64GB and 4GB RAM. My Moto X4 (Amazon prime) came with 32GB and 3GB RAM, and it does a great job for my purpose but G7 gives you more so that you will not be lacking in storage and performance. 4GB is plenty good enough for multitasking and overall performance. I have yet to experience any lag. 3. Snapdragon 632. Moto X4 comes with SD 630, and it is good enough, but G7 comes with SD 632 - which is faster than 630. And armed with 4GB RAM, performance is top notch. Apps open fast and moving from page to page was easy and smooth. The phone runs like a premium phone. I love the experience. 4. Battery lasts full day and more for a casual user like me. My screen time is normally between 3-4 hours per day. And with G7 battery, I can go about 1 1/2 day per charge. 5. Stock camera experience is not as good as my wife's Pixel 3a, but is decent enough to be not to be ashamed. In other words, you can take decent pictures when the moment arrives and do not need to be hesitant. BUT if you really want a better camera experience, download and install "Google Camera (or gcam)" apk for your Moto G7 (just google "how to install google camera apk for Moto G7"). IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Now the experience is solid B+. I am using it now and it is great! 6. Get a decent case and tempered-glass screen protector to protect your investment. Overall, I love this phone. It does more and better than expected! Given the price, this is a great choice for those who do not need or want premium phones! Highly Recommended!

This is a GREAT budget phone!!
Over the years my wife and I've owned several different generations of Moto phones, the first being the 1st gen Moto with several other gens to follow, my latest being the Moto G5 Plus. All the Motos we owned were fine phones, and for the most part were trouble free, except for the G5 Plus which over the past month become increasingly slower, more erratic, with the battery draining rapidly leading to a charge by mid-afternoon. Tech support suggested several different things to try to revive the dying brick (all of which I'd already tried!!) but nothing worked. I'd had the G5 plus for 18 months and up until this past month I really liked it's performance. I'm just grateful the old girl held on until Black Friday when I was able to snag a Moto G7 for $179 on Amazon. The transfer of Apps and Data went smoothly and both phones had the same size SIM card (nano) so that was easy. I did have to contact my service provider and update a few mobile settings for texting but that only took a few minutes and I was up and running. "Running" is the best way to describe the past two days of putting the G7 through a battery of trials and tests. First off I was amazed at the speed and fluidity of this phone, the processor is way faster than any other Moto I've owned. I was also impressed with the battery life, at the end of the day I still had 34% after a full day of setting up, arranging Apps, downloading several new apps (which I wanted but didn't have the space for on the G5), I also spent several hours of checking out the bells and whistles the G7 possesses. Oh, and I viewed lots of YouTube vids. I was also extremely impressed with the facial recognition and the fingerprint sensor, both have worked flawlessly with amazing speed (much more so than the fingerprint sensor on my old G5 Plus), I like the sensor much better being on the back of the G7 versus the front on the G5. I didn't spend much time with the camera which is not a priority for me, but the pics I did take were pretty darn good. I love that this phone has 64 gb of internal storage and 4 gb of RAM, which is more than plenty for me and my needs. Not only does the performance stand out, the outward apperance and display of the G7 is very impressive IMO. The G7's sleek/stylish appearance and feel would lead one to believe this is a much more expensive phone than it actually is, also IMO. One last comment, I ordered a slim case because other reviewers remarked how slick the surface was on the G7, It is and I'm glad I did!! I'm sure you can tell that I'm totally impressed with the G7, but will it last? Time will tell so if the need arises in the future due to unforeseen problems, I'll certainly update this review.

Pretty decent
For this price, it's a pretty solid phone. It's fast, light-weight and charges quickly as well. It's battery life is a bit on the shorter side though, so you really gotta minimize your use, keep the brightness low and turn on power saving mode when necessary. However, this isn't really that big an issue when you can charge the phone in under an hour from 10% to 100%. I haven't spent much time with it yet, only a few days but I'm liking it so far. It's got a mostly clean install of Android 9.0 and it works out of the box easily. Only annoying thing I had to figure out was how to disable Moto Actions, they're a real battery drainer and just annoying. Simple enough to do though, just go to the Moto app and disable all the moto actions/gestures/etc. Overall, great low budget phone, and being unlocked is pretty awesome too. Worth the price for those who don't wanna blow a grand for a cell phone. Oh and I didn't test the face recognition, I'm not into that sort of thing. The fingerprint reader was about average compared to what I'm already used to, that being said, it's not very reliable. Passwords work just fine though haha.

Love this phone
I have been using Moto G phones for years now and I got this as an upgrade to my Moto G5 Plus. This is indeed a phone in the mid-range price category that delivers the same as a high end phone. My G5 Plus was still working but was just not performing up to par. I am so glad I did my research and saw what a superior jump in quality this phone is. Pros Beautiful phone with exceptional picture quality Much improved, great sounding speaker Screen touch sensitivity is amazing Cameras and Video are pretty great quality One Button Navigation works perfectly Fingerprint reader never falters Call quality with At&T is better than any phone I have used before Phone is super fast and can perform many tasks at the same time effortlessly Videos, movies etc. look amazing on the huge screen Cons Battery life is fine and with average daily use I get a full day. But on days with more time in actual apps I do need to recharge. But it recharges to 100% in about an hour. So this is a beautiful phone that I honestly am thrilled to use on a daily basis. I am no longer jealous of those with I-phones or just higher end phones. Moto G has raised their game here to new levels. This phone is so worth the price and compared to it my old Moto G5 Plus looks like a miniature toy. There is no comparison between the two. Transferring of data from the old to new phone happened in minutes. Get a screen protector and case for this one. The phone truly deserves it. Plus though very attractive the phone is slippery. I cannot recommend this phone enough. This is a superior and extremely impressive phone that cannot be beat.

A worthy upgrade from the Moto G5+
After having my Moto G5+ for almost a year and a half, the announcement for the G7 was extremely positive from critics and tech gurus on the internet. So I bought it to replace my phone. A day in, the phone is extremely smooth with the interface being the classic moto design (being that there is no junk software). Transferring my data from android to android was easy, and was able to get the feel of "my phone" in about 3 hours. A majority of the software seen in the moto g5+ can be seen on the 7 and is extremely responsive. The camera is middle of the road quality however, but in comparison to the moto g5+ , the camera on the newer model has several more features and a second camera whose capability quality is "it works" and honestly that's a great thing. I found the camera to be more responsive and able to snap photos quicker than my G5 and able to actually work on Snap-chat. The design of the phone is beautiful, and looks and feels like a phone that one might spend a gargantuan amount of monies on (looking at you samsung and apple). And that's what i love about the Motorola G series, these phones look beautiful and have decent hardware that doesn't tear my wallet apart. For this price point the hardware on this phone makes Motorola still the king of budget phones. Edit: May 23rd Phone is still responsive with quality updates made to the camera. I'm still thoroughly enjoying this phone. Edit: September 15th, 2019 The phone is still in great condition both software and hardware wise. i haven't had any major issues at all. Can't wait to see what else moto will do with the next generation!

A value KING, used purchase review
I bought a used "Good" condition G7 and it arrived entirely unscathed and if you told me it was new I would have believed you. It works perfectly and I have been using it for about a week now. It cost $178 at time of purchase and it's just disgusting how good this thing is for the price. Features that were important to me were: headphone jack, new-ish operating system (8+), Android, compatible with the Ting/Sprint network, and at least 40gigs of storage. It simply ticks every box and is just a world apart from my previous Iphone 6. Battery life is exceptional. With 3 hours of screen on time after a full charge I'm barely below 50%. I can go multiple days of light use without charging. The charger that came with it got it from empty to full charge in the time it took me to take a shower. I don't take a lot of pictures, but I do a lot of photo editing and can easily say that this phones camera is... fine. It's fine. There's nothing to write home about, it struggles in low light but that's it. I haven't replaced the camera software, but I've heard that improves the camera a lot. I did a lot of research before settling on this phone. I looked at the Pixel 3a, used Pixel 1/2's, used Galaxy 7+, Note5+, but ended up taking a G7 because it's basically 90% of any $700+ flagship for literally half (or in my case a third) of the cost and, for me personally, just carrying a $700 phone would make me exceptionally paranoid of dropping it and I don't need that kind of stress in my life right now. Dislikes: While it's nice that it has so little bloatware, managing and disabling all the Alexa/Amazon garbage that comes pre-installed is a pain. The automated back-light dimming is too aggressive and will randomly turn down brightness while I'm typing, so I outright disabled it. Single bottom firing speaker is actually surprisingly great, but can be covered/misdirected easily. Disassembly would be a huge hassle, requiring a heat gun to separate the screen from the phone is very repair unfriendly and could easily end with user repairs breaking the phone further if they don't know what they're doing (replacing a battery would require this by the way). I can't speak to the quality of the Alexa/speech features because I don't use virtual assistants. Overall, extremely happy, and will actively be recommending this phone to my cheap friends with broken phones.

Activating on Boost Mobile is a pain. Update: This phone no longer works on Boost
I Kind of really like this phone. The screen is beautiful and bright and the design classy and not something you see often in lower priced phones. The new processor and added memory make the phone run smoothly with no lag. I played a few graphic intensive games with it and they worked smoothly with nice frame rates. It definitely is faster than my Moto G5 plus. Battery life is ok, but not spectacular. After six hours of pretty constant use, I had 55% left. The camera is fast, but I feel the photos are not as sharp as they were on my old G5 plus. That is the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five. If you are on Boost Mobile, there may be an issue activating your phone. I was on the phone for two days to Boost Mobile and Motorola and both have advised me that there is an issue activating the phone on the Boost network. Boost needs to have the IMEI in their system, and it took three days for the problem to be resolved. Also Boost Mobile said they would have to send me a sim card that was compatible. None of the Boost Mobile sim card kits I found had the proper card, not even their own stores So if you don't want to wait for them to send you a card, go to Best Buy and get a Sprint bring your own phone sim card kit with part number SIMOLW516TQ. Once my IMEI was found on the Boost Mobile website, I just popped the card in and swapped phones. The G7 is a nice phone, one of the best in this price range. UPDATE: This phone can no longer be activated on Boost. I wish they would have stated this earlier as I would have bought a different phone, now I am stuck with it. Mine still works, but I can't get one for members on my family plan. Looks like I will have to wait for someone to put out a similar phone that works on Boost. This phone should not be listed as unlocked. Taking away another star.

Stopped working after 6 weeks.
I was initially very happy with this phone. My previous phones were a Moto G4 followed by a G5 Plus. I have been satisfied with both of those phones. The G5 still works fine, but I wanted an upgrade to get all the fancy new features. Plus, the battery isn't lasting as long as it did when new. The G7 was a suitable upgrade from my G5, which has served me well for the last two years. Six weeks after receiving the phone I was out on my boat. It started to rain and I called my wife to say I was coming in. The phone was out for under 2 minutes in a very light rain. That night, the screen started flickering and died. The phone was still on, as it still vibrated and made noises, but the screen wouldn't turn on. I figured that something had gone wrong with the water resistance and the innards had gotten wet. I called customer support and they said that I could send it in, but that if there was any moisture detected in the phone they wouldn't do anything for me. I told them that I felt that there's probably water in the phone, but that there shouldn't be. It's supposed to be water resistant, and this phone got less wet than I've gotten my Moto G5 and that still works. I spoke to three different people, as they kept "escalating" my call, but nobody could tell me if having my phone out in ANY rain would be cause for voiding my warranty, just that any moisture detected in the phone would definitely void the warranty. I decided that instead of wasting time sending the phone in I'd stick it in a bag of rice and go back to my G5. After a week or so the phone started working again. I used it for a couple of weeks and it worked just fine. There was no sign that anything had ever been wrong. Today, I was talking on my phone outside. It's in the mid-40s here, and when I went back in the house there was condensation on the phone. It was sunny and not raining at all. Well, the screen did the same flickering and died about two minutes after I came back inside. Even if the rain was too much for the phone to handle, I feel that it's completely unacceptable that a phone that's advertised as water resistant would die because of condensation from going from outside to inside. I know that there's moisture getting in there somehow, so there's nothing that the company will do for me. I feel that there's a defect with this phone that's causing it to allow moisture in, but the company won't honor the warranty if there's any moisture in the phone. I'm completely disappointed in this experience and will not be buying another Motorola product.
