Make sure you have chosen the correct key for the application.
I liked the sheer key because it worked. I didn't install the original correctly or it was wearing wrong. I didn't put it in correct. I replaced the alternator on my riding mower which means removing the flywheel. When I installed the flywheel back into place, I didn't tap the key all the way down until the key seated. I tried to start the engine and bang. The key split and then the flywheel was allowed to float around the shaft and would not start. I installed the new key correctly and it runs like a charm.

As listed did not work
This was listed as a replacement for my Craftsman riding mower flywheel key but was obviously not the correct key. Would not seat in as it should have and was probably twice as long as it needed to be to fit correctly.
