I got this book over 20 years ago, a smallish looking book printed on newsprint paper. As a bride brought to the Mid-Atlantic, to a property full of clay soil, lots of trees casting dark shade, and large empty flowerbeds, this book with it's tips for gardening and managing plantings over the seasons and years, has helped me more than any other gardening book I have ever read. On moving to a new property with even more "grounds," I was confidently able to decide what to keep (the more formal Italian style garden), what to improve (the soil) and what to plant. I also know when to work on a seciton of my property and when to focus my efforts elsewhere. I bought this book again for a younger neighbor with no experience at all in maintaining even a small lawn. who bought a larger property full of overgrown plantings, garden boxes and trees. If even a few of these tips in this book sink in, he should be able to confidently start to manage his overgrown Shangri-la.

This book has been a favorite of mine for many years. Whenever I meet someone who wants to garden and has limited time or space, I buy them a copy of The Lazy Gardener. The no nonsense approach and the easy to understand guidance make this a favorite! From companion plants to when to do everything this THE gardening book to get. I have purchased this book over 20 times and will continue to purchase and give it as a gift for anyone who wants to grow an awesome garden without spending their whole life tending to their plants.

This book gives you answers to questions you didn't even know to ask. I've been gardening seriously for over 15 years, yet I find something I can use at every re-reading. Simple, to the point, and clearly written, this book is a must-have for everyone who plants a vegetable garden, or wants to. Some ideas also translate to flower gardening.

I have enjoyed the tips from this book for several years. I bought this second book for a friend whom I thought would like it. As was, he has mentioned that he liked many ideas.
