Our son was hoping to use this to assist with his law course , and has been quite pleased with it. It deals with all the aspects of writing essays and even exam questions, with particular focus on what to do and how to approach an answer if you're not sure what to write. As such, not only is it useful to law students, but also to anybody who just wants general advice in writing as a student. If our son has found it handy then I'm sure other students will as well.

How to Write Law Essays & Exams has plenty of useful advice particularly how to analyse a case.Many cases run on for many pages but they can be summarised in a paragraph or two.It's important to distinguish what's said that is 'obiter' or the 'ratio' or reasoning of a case.It's good for helping to answer essay and exam questions. Especially problem questions.

I teach Law at University so was interested to read this book about how to write law essays and exam answers.The technique being promoted is a familiar one in law circles. The IRAC method involves identifying the issue, the rule involved, applying the law and stating a conclusion. It is best suited to answering problem questions. It helps students to clearly focus on the best structure to answer each aspect of the problem question.It does work, though less well, on essay writing where the focus is on critical analysis. This involves going beyond describing what the law is and considering why it is as it is and now it might be changed.As a teacher I found the book useful in helping me in thinking about question setting.If students read this book and apply the principles set out carefully they will achieve better marks.

How to write law essays & exams is a really well written and designed book. Produced yes for law students but there is much here that anyone who writes essays or about to take an exam that requires lots of writing will gain from. There is lots of good sound advice here. Pleased that there isn’t as much technical legal words as I expected there would be included, everything is well thought out.The author uses a good set example cases to use for the essays.There is exam help plus lots of useful ideas on what to say in an essay if unsure of the answers.Overall an interesting and very helpful book.
