Connected to my 12v battery on the workbench my iota did not charge them. my cheapo charger charged them up fully. any ideas what's with the iota?

It could be several things, including simply a blown output fuse in the Iota. Iota is very good to help customers, so I would contact them for the best answer.

Is it ok to have the charger plugged in at the same time the vehicle is running and the alternator is charging, or does it need to be unplugged first?

Yes,that is fine. It is a Power Supply unit first and a charger second.

What are dimensions? Does it have an ac plug?

Well it should say the dimensions online I don't know what they are anymore and yes you just plug it right in

Will the 75 amp charge faster than the 55 amp or is it just capable of 75amps as a power supply?

Slower is not necessarily better for battery life. Odyssey once supplied some excellent technical data on their AGM batteries. It's best to use the suggested "C" rates and load curves when charging any battery. In general, Odyssey AGM batteries "like" pretty high "C" rates!
