A lot of laptop for a very fair price
I needed to replace the family laptop after seven years. SEVEN! That was a HP, and it only started getting noticeably slow after five, with the Windows 10 update.I buy around ten HP laptops a year for work, because they are well specced for the money and they are reliable. So, yeah, it was always likely to be a HP that I bought for the family. This model stood out for its great spec but decent price. It was important to get a full keyboard, i.e. one with a number pad, and the screen needed to be big enough to watch movies on, BUT it had to be light enough to be a laptop that sits on laps - although I use a monitor, keyboard and mouse for my work laptop at home, the family really don't want to use my office (and that suits me just fine!).The screen is great - crisp and vibrant - and well suited to TV/movies and the crap that my son watches on YouTube. Sound is very good too, with effective stereo. Ultimately you'll never beat headphones, but for laptop speakers they are very good. There is no DVD drive. You almost certainly don't want one in your laptop. An external DVD drive will cost you £20. I bought one four years ago, and have used it maybe ten times in total - it was certainly worth buying, and I'm glad I now don't need to spec one into a new laptop for added bulk and cost or lower specs elsewhere to offset the cost.If you need to use a DVD drive a couple of times a week, then yes spec one in. Otherwise buy yourself an external one.The hard disk has a generous 1Tb, which I know I will struggle to fill, even in seven years, as more and more of what we do as a family is streamed, from photos to music. 500Gb would have been plenty. The CPU is a mainstream i5. If you are going to use Excel, and have files with 100,000 rows , then you'll want to step up to the i7, but for almost every other usage you will not notice any benefit from the bump, especially with the 8Gb of Ram. 8Gb is pretty standard these days, but plenty of laptop brands try to chip you down to 4 or 6 to keep the cost down, but it is a cost saving that will shorten the life of the laptop, so spend now and save later. The silver exterior / black interior is a subjective aesthetic, but I like it a lot - I am a sucker for black. The ports are what you would expect on a laptop of this size - 3 USB, HDMI, Ethernet, card reader, headphone. One minor niggle - the power button, which is just above the keyboard, doesn't have a light so you know that it registered your press - that light exists, but is on the right exterior of the chassis, next to the card reader. Not ideal, but I'll get over it.Software, aside from Windows 10, is the usual extras from HP, most of which you don't need, but there are some useful tips for those less used to Windows 10. Too many adverts for free trials of Office for my liking.Set-up takes a while and Microsoft are getting no better and making the first impression of Windows a quick and pleasant. Once you think you are fully set up you'll have Windows Update downloading a massive update. But at least you do get regular free updates from MS these days, so I shouldn't complain. To round up: this is a very good laptop that is big enough for general family use, and light enough to sit on a lap. It will do justice to TV and media with great screen and sound. I paid £479.99 and it is a very good price given that you get 1Tb of disk space, 8Gb of Ram and a medium-fast i5 CPU.I'd recommend it to family and friends, and I recommend it to you.

Fast laptop. Is exactly what I wanted and the price is so good for what you get.
I bought this laptop originally because my old laptop had an i3-330m processor which couldn't run the emulator on Android studio at all. This runs it with ease (you need to set the ram use to 6gb as 2gb is what is recommended but is nowhere enough). When I first started it up it did take a while to process but that's understandable. Once it configured everything it's really fast. I don't have any problems with the load up and loads the home screen very quickly after login too.I plug my Ethernet cable in which at the beginning I was so worried wouldn't fit because maybe my laptop was so old the ethernet cables had changed size?! But no thankfully that is not a thing. It expands to fit them, which makes so much sense. The laptop doesn't have a disk drive which is the only thing I wish it did have, but it is quite slim and would be heavier if it did.I think the keys are a lot harder to press than my original laptop but I don't mind this. The keys are nicely spaced out. The up and down arrow keys are small if you're a gamer so that'd be annoying, but it does have a caps lock light! Something my old laptop didn't have which I find I weirdly missed. The camera seems fine, I'm not at all bothered by it and will never use it but it's perfect for skyping and stuff like that. It doesn't need to be high quality so it's not.I deleted quite a few applications and programs on the laptop, and you can stop start up programs like Spotify if you're finding it a bit slow, but I don't think this will be a problem.I personally don't like the black interior of the laptop and prefer the outside material, but I wasn't bothered by the way it looked as the price was so good. The laptop is definitely new when it arrived packaged and didn't have any random files on it or anything. All in all I think this is a very good laptop. The price just makes it even better.

Camera not full HD
Quite a nice laptop but camera is not full HD as it does not support Windows 10 Hello (Face recognition). Not fast but adequate performance.

HP Service and quality poor
A high spec HP P.C Intel Core i7-7500 U, 4 GB, 2 TB laptop to replace a five year old P.C. that is now way too slow , for my daughter who uses photo shop. Less than a year later and the HD dies. The P.C is in pristine condition. Amazon handled my complaint well eventually putting me through to a rather tired and disinterested technical support person at HP. His response out of warranty not our problem. Eventually they offer to replace the HD for a couple of hundred pounds with the same Seagate HD that has failed, 10 days to ship to Holland and back from the U.K. to their trusted partner and a 3 month guarantee but only on the new disk. Also I have 4 days to accept or they will rescind the offer. I used to do business directly with HP in Stoke Gifford, Bolder, and Santa Clara and Compaq in Houston , both were very fine companies. I don't expect a HD to fail in 11 months. This is a faulty disk. That should be replaced F.O.C. The company I run spends several Hundreds of thousands of pounds on IT H/W per year. I will not approve or sign any P.O's for HP in future unless there is no alternative choice. Unfortunately I am writing this on an HP keyboard and monitor with my HP laser jet on my desk, but believe me that's going to change rapidly. Bill Hewlett and David Packard should be turning in their graves. I got the P.C. fixed locally for the same price but with an SDD instead and retuned in 3 days.
