Pure Komachi 2 Series Tomato/Cheese Knife

This is specialized for tomatoes and citrus fruits and is one of my 3 favorite specialized (beyond what ordinary knives can offer) Pure Komachi 2 knives, the other two being the blue Multi-Utility (esp. Fish) knife and the purple Sandwich knife. This red knife works great for tomatoes (the spear end can be used to pick up the top of the tomato (and wrist-flick off somewhere) that you have carved out with the knife -- look up how chefs cut tomatoes if you don't understand this). The sawtooth blade appears identical to the yellow "Citrus" knife, so I don't see any use for the yellow knife if you have this red one. This red knife is not good for cutting hard or soft cheese (the yellow "Cheese" knife works for hard cheese), though the spear end is handy for picking up a piece of hard cheese. I have all the Pure Komachi 2 knives and think they are a clearly better quality brand (just by looking at the edge, not to mention that the same parent company makes the awesome Shun professional knives) than the very similar knives I see in stores like Target. -- Usual warning to be super careful using these lightweight razor sharp knives. The difference in weight can make your muscle-memory lifetime cutting habits unsafe. So be cautious until you are used to the light weight and extra sharpness of these knives.

This knife is excellent! My cousin has one. I used at her house and couldn't believe how sharp and ready it was to use!! I got on Amazon and ordered myself one. It arrived before I got home the next day. Awesome

This knife has stayed very sharp after almost 5 years of use and is highly recommended!! This knife slices tomatoes better than any other knife I've used; its serrated edge bites into the tomato, allowing you to slice instead of squish the tomato. The point is specially shaped to allow you to quickly & easily remove the core from the tomato (see pictures). This also works well for slicing other slippery foods like olives. The handle is quite comfortable. While this does not have the heft of a traditional knife, it does not feel flimsy and the handle is very comfortable. And it's so easy to clean; just put in the dishwasher (although the manufacturer recommends hand washing). I had initially purchased this (and a nearly completely set of these Pure Komachi knives) to keep my husband away from my "good" knives when he was making sandwiches, etc, and because I wanted inexpensive knives that I wouldn't feel guilty about running through the dishwasher -- but it turns out that I like "his" knives so much, I use them, too! When these knives first arrived, my husband called them "kiddie knives," because of the pretty colors, but be careful, because these are very sharp -- early on, I cut myself badly enough with the purple sandwich knife so that a Band-aid was inadequate and I needed Steristrips. My advice is to treat this knife as you would any super-sharp knife, because it is just as sharp as my professional quality-knives, even if it comes in a fun color and is not too expensive.

Wow! this knife is really sharp that it can cut my "hardened like rock" homemade bread. I wish it will stay sharp for a long time. I like this knife because it comes with a protective cover - that is a plus. My only concern is the product still made in China. I am missing kitchen products that are made in either Japan or Germany because these countries are well known for high quality products

I saw the Komachi knives in a daily deal on another website and really liked the looks of them. I was skeptical about their functionality, so I didn't pick them up. I decided to buy just one knife from Amazon instead and try it out. Well, the knife's function is as good as it's form! I cook quite a lot and am constantly chopping, mincing, dicing and slicing. This knife has quickly become my "go to" knife for cutting up fruits and vegetables. It is light weight, cuts well without tearing and isn't so sharp you are worried about the kids chopping off a digit. (While that is a good point if you have younger kids who like to help in the kitchen. I did take a star off because it really does not go through cheese as easily as I would like.) The knife also cleans up easily and the storage case which comes with the knife keeps the sharp edge covered. Highly Recommended.

Great little knife, sharp and works for what we wanted to use it for.

When my husband and I started looking for replacement knives we went looking for good quality without breaking the bank. He came across the Pure Komachi 2 knives and we gave them a try. We love them!!! They are well balanced in your hand and slice really well. I really like the tomato/cheese slicer for slicing through tomatoes with ease. I use it for tons of other cutting and the prongs at the end are nice for picking up items you've sliced up. If you want a great knife at a great price look into these knives.

This knife is really great, and was initially recommended for scoring dough. As it turns out, it's not really good at scoring dough but is incredible for practically everything else. It's now my go to knife in the kitchen. I often pack it with my lunches to cut up fruits at work and since it has a protective sleeve I don't have to worry about slicing my finger when reaching into my bag.

This is my 3rd Komachi knife and I love them all, they are super sharp and easy to clean and maintain.
