Review of Hot Rod distortion pedal
Let me start by saying that I am a distortion pedal junkie- always on the quest for a better sound. I currently use a Hardwire Valve distortion and a Digitech Screaming Blues Overdrive/ distortion, and I really like them both. I have been playing for 38 years. Anyway, I kind of bought the Hot Rod on a whim. It models the Rat, which I like, the DS1, which I hate, and the Fuzz Face, which I like in the hands of Eric Johnson and Joe Bonamassa, but I don't like playing through one. I bought this for the rat sound in a Digitech pedal, because you can play them straight into the PA if needed, because they have a good cabinet simulating circuit built in.Unfortunately, the rat model sounds very muddy, even with the tone all the way up. I had to return it. The Digitech Screamin Blues has the same cab sim, is analog and sounds much better.

one interesting pedal
I've been using the hot rod for the last few months for guitar lines needing less distortion than what i have my amp (or danelectro fab tone) set to. The product's description that the contour knob will give different tones is true, but to me they all sound like theyre being played through various sorts of tin cans, pipes, etc. I personally quite like these sounds but I am not sure how many others will. Like the other digitech pedals I own, this thing is very well built and easy to use.

A Diamond in the rough!
This pedal covers the gamut of overdrive to long sustaining saturated distortion....Ive used more overdrives and disto pedals than I can count...They all are hyped in a different come on to buy.....when it really comes down to tone....This one is a keeper as it does a few good things well...not necessarily the same as brand x,but has its own personality...I agree with Frustrated Gamer in the comments....most players let the pedal play them thinking its some kind of miracle worker instead of them playing the pedal.........Recommended!

A must have for guitar players
Awesome distortion/overdrive pedal. I don't understand the negative reviews. If you get a bad sound you might want to look at your amp or cables. I got a full smooth overdriven or distorted sound on all settings there was nothing thin or raspy about any setting even with the tone dialed all the way up. I use a fender American Strat, Jag master with dual HB, into a Blues junior Tube amp that I use as a head for a 4x12 cab. I bought this pedal at a pawn shop for 7 bucks just cause they thought it was defective but it wasn't. I own a Big muff, tube screamer, blues screamer, speed box and various other pedals. I have tried every pedal this pedal imitates and it is very close to all of them and hate to say it but this pedal sounds better than the DS1 and the Rat Pro pedal. Digitech did well here it is very versatile pedal. I have owned it a week now and can't stop using it. Great for saving room on a pedal board instead of hauling around a bunch of overdrive/distortion pedals for various sounds. I'd say it is a must buy for nearly every guitarist or at least blues, rock or even country players.

dont listen to the review who gave it a 3
this is probably digitechs second best regular distortion pedal. the first being the hard wire series. This pedal has options and alot of them. the morph knob crafts your sound. and can go from old school misfits overdrive to heavy distortion like 3 days grace to fuzz distortion which is really bassy/blusey distortion. this is now way disgned for metal. it has nice thick sound but not so much crunch. I recommend this pedal if you want some rock/alternitive sound or old school goth over drive. these are starting to be discontinued so grab one fast
