Superb Filtration and Odor Elimination
This review applies to all purchases of this dual filter type. This was my 5th purchase. About the best test for one of these filter types is the "skunk test." We live in a neighborhood with several skunks and they've even sprayed our Golden Retriever. Within roughly two minutes, this filter removes any lingering skunk odor that drifts into the house when the windows are open. A filtration system is only as good as the filters designed for your system. I have tried the so-called "compatible" filters for this system and they do not work as well.

clearing smoke in NoCal during orange skies & 2020 fires
I have had these for 2 fire seasons, and I'm an asthmatic. The first 2 weeks of new filters and I have zero allergies. They gradually come back, but the air is still clear. Throughout 40 spare the air days of 2020 fire season so far, these babies are filtering and doing their job. We've had heat waves AND unhealthy particulate count for weeks. Which means you can't go outside, you need to keep your home locked up, no open windows. These have enabled me to open my windows and take in cool night air when the particulate count drops to moderate/low unhealthy for sensitive group air quality--yellow/orange >125 when it's unbearably stuffy. I close the windows, and these do the job. They are amazing. The filters are expensive, but I'm going to keep buying them cos I can breathe with no problems. I have 2 of the 205 Blueair units for a 750sf home.

Great filter
Noticeably cleaner air with the filters. Very easy to take out and replace; takes under 1 minute. Crazy to see how much dust and dirt is accumulated while in use! I live in a city and rely on these for clean air.

I only buy original OEM
I once made the mistake of getting “copy” filters that ended up not comparing at all to the originals and when it comes to my health and what’s important and filtering out what it’s supposed to filter, I don’t want to play around! As expected, these are definitely more expensive, probably more than they need to be, but I will still continue to buy them. That’s the only reason why I gave it four stars as I think that they are sold at very high prices. That being said, trust me whenI say that not all filters are created equal! Same with my Dyson fan purifier -I’m not going to mess around with a knock off that doesn’t have the same quality or materials. Being that it’s summer and fire season I am using the smoke barrier one also in the bedroom which I always use in the larger one in the living room/kitchen area. I have them on 6 mo. subscribe and save.

Bad odor
So I bought this filter not too long ago, and when I replaced the original dual protection filter that came with the BlueAir 280i. There is a sour smell coming from the new dual protection filter. Now this could be a defective filter on my end, however upon reading the other reviews I noticed there is a recurring trend for this filter. I suspect it might have been the activated coconut carbon material that is defective. Why isn't the HEPA material you may ask? Because there is no foul smell coming from a regular HEPA filter (per the reviews), as oppose to the dual protection. I also keep seeing Blueair representatives reaching out to those who have left a negative review on here. What is that going to fix? You have a defective design, so fix that instead. Go back to the regular activated carbon pellets that other manufactures are still making for their air purifiers' filters, if it's not broke don't fix it. If you want to cheap out on the pellets, then go with the spray on type.

A very solid filter filled with a layer of pelleted coconut carbon.
First it is a great filter which is very solid built. You do get what you pay for in most respects, just feel that it is a bit too much money for the product.
