KEEN Men's Targhee 2 Low Height Waterproof Hiking Shoes

This is my fourth pair of Keen waterproof hiking shoes. They have all worked out great. The Keen Targahee 2 & 3 are waterproof and a only come up to my ankle, so they are a lower profile than most boots and they seem to let air thru them so my feet are not sweaty or damp ever. This latest pair took me a month of everyday casual wearing to break in properly. I have not experienced any sort of foot pain or soreness while wearing them even after strenuous hikes in rugged terrain. They are a much better fit for me than the leading competition (Merrel). The shoes have usually lasted a year per pair for the amount of use I get out of them, wearing them almost everyday. My previous pairs have blackened a bit from wearing them in the very sunny Coachella Valley otherwise known as The Mohave Desert. My previous pairs have worn out, after a acceptable amount of use, in the inside back of the heel area. The fabric wears out and tears open and then the padding breaks apart. It remained soft though, and did not become dry and hard. And in one case the back of the lower rubber sole on the bottom lost it's adherence to the upper rubber sole directly under the leather. I still keep them as a back up pair. The shoes have a very sturdy toe area that does not have any metal in it, but is made of a hard rubber. After five years is mountainous hiking in Idylwyld, and all over Coachella I have never had any stubbed toes or foot injurys. Nothing has ever pierced them and injured me, although one pair did get a two inch tear from a sharp rock that sliced the leather on the outside of the shoe just behind my small toe, but it did not cut through the inner lining and it still remains waterproof. I did not attempt to patch it or glue it together. The Keen Targhee are a very dependable hiking shoe in my opinion. Fashionable and rugged durability just like me! 😊

These shoes are just about perfect for my current needs. I was looking for something that would be a decent all around shoe/boot for hiking and also something that would work well in a construction setting. They are a little bit more clunky than I expected which isn't necessarily a bad thing since this adds to the sturdiness and robustness of these shoes! Because they are low cut, the water-proof feature is not always helpful, however, under the right circumstances they will keep your feet dry when they would otherwise get soaked. It is also worth mentioning that they provide above average traction compared to any "regular" shoes I've owned. Places that I'd normally avoid stepping due to fear of slipping, I can now step cautiously and usually expect a positive outcome. For me, they felt pretty good right out of the box but they were very comfortable after about a week of wearing them. I've worn them for over eighteen hours straight a few times and they still feel pretty good on the feet, albeit a little smellier than before. They are kind of wide in the toe region which was expected and is fine for me. I have fairly wide feet and my toes still have a little wiggle room. A slight separation formed on the outer sole, however, it doesn't affect function and it isn't getting any worse so I'm not really complaining but just wanted to mention this. It's like the glue didn't quite hold up in one little section on one shoe. Only time will tell, but it appears to be a cosmetic flaw and nothing else. To sum up, after owning these shoes for two months, I really like them! There might be better shoes out there, but for the price, these shoes surpassed my expectations.

I don't normally write reviews when something positive occurs, more so I just complain when something goes wrong and then post about that. But I felt compelled to laud this hiking shoe, even though I've only used it on one 8 mile hike in the Angeles National Forest. My girlfriend and I hiked Mount Baden Powell this past Saturday 4/25/15 in what ended up being the perfect test environment for any hiking shoe or boot. A cold, windy day with plenty of unusual Southern California precipitation. Starting out at 37 degrees at 6,500 feet, my feet felt comfortable, warm and firm in these Keen's. Hiking up to between 8,000' - 9,300' it started snowing. We crossed over patches of snow as well as walking through mud. A good portion of the terrain we passed over was rock. On the way down as we dropped to 7,500' and below the snow turned to sleet and then became rain so we also crossed several puddles along the trail path. After completion my feet stayed warm, comfortable and dry. I've got fat/wide feet so these size 11's were very spacious and my feet didn't feel cramped. I've also got a pair of Vasque Taku GTX hiking boots and these Keen Targhee II's had an extremely similar feel to the Vasque's, just in a hiking shoe form instead of hiking boot form. They seem pretty sturdy and durable, but I can't give them 5 stars just yet because in my books an excellent product will have a long, productive and durable life. Like my Toyota or my Vasque hiking boots. I'll try to follow up with this post in a couple months or after I use them to hike Mount Whitney in September with these Keen Targhee II's and then possibly raise it to 5 stars if they are still going strong without a great deal of wear and tear. ***Updated 8-24-16. These hiking shoes are by far the best hiking shoe's I've ever had. I don't even bother with using my Vasque hiking boots anymore. Besides, trekking poles help reduce ankle sprains anyway, so who needs a heavier/bulkier boot? The last 3 weekends I hiked San Bernardino Peak (16.5 miles 4700' elevation gain), Old Baldy Trail (13 miles 6,000' elevation gain) and last weekend Mount Whitney (23 miles 6,670' elevation gain) and these hiking shoes are now well over a year old and still kicking ass. Grip still great, comfortable enough and very durable, wide for my wide feet...I cannot praise these hiking shoes enough. Pair them with Thorlos wool hiking socks and your feet will do better and last longer than other poor suckers stuck in other shoes/boots.***

I love these shoes, I've been through probably 7 pairs, they last me about 6 months of everyday use, lots of hiking. My only complaint is that the tread portion of the shoe tends to alway separate here on every pair, both feet. I end up super gluing it back every time. I have the K30 insoles. So far these have been the only shoes that are comfortable for my plantar fascitus.

I own Keen shoes, boots and sandals and love them all. My normal hiking boots are the Keen Klamaths. They are great hiking/backpacking boots but sometimes I want a lighter shoe for shorter hikes. I have used my Keen Arroyo II sandals in the past but being sandaals/watershoes they are not completely enclosed and small rocks, etc. can find their way in depending on the material of the trail. The Arroyos are also limited on support due to their design. That is not a flaw but merely their intended use design. The Targhee II Hiking shoes fit a great middle spot, when you want a lighter shoe than a full boot but something more substantial than a sandal. The Targhee II is also my daily fall/winter/early spring shoe. In the summer I like the Arroyo II as the Targhee II waterproop Keen Dry membrane, while breathable, is less breathable than the vented Arroyo II. The Targhee can make my feet sweat in hot weather. I am a true size 9 but wear 9.5 in the Targhee II--it is 1/2 size small in my opinion. I do wish, as do many others, that Keen would standardize their sizes. Some are true to size and some are small or large, up to a full size. So it is a trial and error in sizing for different models. But like so many Keen fans we put up with the hassle due to the quality and comfort of their Keen footwear. Thanks to Amazon's free return policy on some models though. My advice on the Targhee II Hiking Shoe (this older model) is to order a 1/2 size larger than your normal shoe size.

Keens are well made. Wide in toe box. Great from hard working people. Durable and keeps the water out.. unless stomping in puddles. Love the slip resistance sole.

These Keen Targhee shoes are the best on the market for support and durability . This is the third pair of them I have owned. After wearing these shoes for years I thought I should change styles and bought a set of Merrill hiking shoes instead .Long story short I had a huge flareup of my planter fasciitis to the point that I was walking with a cane , couldn’t even hardly put pressure on my foot . After using deep kneading expensive foot massage machine, plantar fasciitis support socks, ice which none of the above helped my planter fasciitis. So I went back to what worked and I bought another pair of these Keens. I had appointment with the podiatrist later on in the week and I put these new shoes on and wore them for three days... canceled my podiatrist appointment and pain was immensely better as each day went by . I’ve hiked the Rocky Mountains all over Colorado these are awesome hiking shoes with great support I was a fool to not stay with these shoes I won’t make that mistake again . Another plus for these shoes as you can push it all day long and yet at the end of the day you’re not burdened with foot fatigue . They do run a little bit wider in width, just a small amount but this is definitely a good thing with my feet, doesn’t bunch up my toes walking down a hill.

If I had an opportunity to rate these shoes at a 10 with 10 being the best I would rate it at 10! The quality, appearance, comfort, the style & price is excellent! My husband has Gout & Bunions this is an amazing shoe he loves the comfort & ease to walk in these shoes. He had some several years ago & pleased with them, but prices had gone beyond our budget we located these on special perfect price & shoe!!! Also, extremely satisfied with the fact not made with recycled material everything brand new & Keen is the best!!

My second pair of these shoes and absolutely love them. Last pair looked after me for 8 years and I now use them as a shoe for working on site (I'm a fencer)

It really isn't easy to get wide and waterproof shoes without spending a few quid. Had to order these a few times to get the right size but the perseverance was well worth it. They are a really ridgid shoe with very little manipulation of the foot so a wide toe box is essential. However they are comfy and feel incrediblely secure. Definitely waterproof and do their job on slippy forest trails. I would say your feet ache a bit after a day of wearing them, mainly as the foot is so supported, movement is limited and can feel a bit like cramp after you take them off and stretch. All being said, that's not major given the benefits they provide. I had to size down by 1.5 sizes, and they still have a bit of a gap at the heel but tight lacing will secure you in. I got these for about £75, well worth up to £100 and I can see these lasting years.
