Reading from the package in front of me it says the following Ingredients : Lard, BHA, BHT, Citric Acid

Q: The description says non-hydrogenated. if it is not hydrogenated, how is the lard preserved?

The additives BHA and BHT are preservatives.

Q: Is that a paper box that it comes in?

It comes in a cardboard box, inside is freezer-type paper. I have never had a problem with it. This is the same way lard is packaged for the stores, where it is out on the shelf.
