This Daruma Doll has Great Meaning
I originally saw this doll on an episode of “Go On” (was a great TV series, too bad it was cancelled) where it was referred to as a Japanese Goal Doll. I had never seen one before and absolutely loved the concept. So I started researching and found they are called Daruma dolls. To Amazon I went to make a purchase! While Daruma dolls may have different purposes for a user, I decided to make the purpose of mine the same as in the “Go On” episode I watched – as a goal doll. You set a major goal or milestone you want to achieve, fill in the pupil of one eye, place it in clear view, and continue pursuing your goal so that you can fill in the other eye. By filling in the other eye, you’ve achieved the concept of “both eyes open”… or the awareness to successfully achieve your goal. I would encourage you to study the concepts/insights/philosophies behind the Daruma dolls as there is much enlightenment to be gained. It gives you a greater appreciation for what the doll stands for. This doll was perfect for me. Just the right size and flat enough on the bottom to sit on my desk without wobbling. For me, I wrote my goal on a small sticker and placed it on the bottom of the Daruma doll as a secondary reminder of what I am trying to attain. The constant “one pupil” staring at me is very effective at reminding me to get back on task. I really like this particular Daruma doll and will be buying more for future goals. Good luck to you!

Lovely paper-mache Daruma Doll
I love the concept of the Daruma Doll. I have a goal to become fluent in Spanish. I can't wait to accomplish this goal and color in the other eye. I also got one for my Spanish friend whose goal is to become fluent in English. I think it makes a great gift. The quality of the paper-mache doll is very nice.

Desktop Daruma
Just the right size for a desktop reminder that I have a goal to accomplish. I think I overdid painting in the pupil of the eye, Daruma looks like he took a hit or something. You paint in one eye when you start your project, and then you joyfully paint in the other when your goal is met. There are other color Darumas depending on your goal, white for scholastic goals, yellow/gold = money, green for health, pink for love) but red is the color of robes worn by priests and also the Chinese color for auspicious fortune. And it's said to repel demons (bonus!)

I bought mine for $10 in Oct, 2021. It's doubled in price
The price has doubled so that's no fun. Great little guy. Took me almost 2.5 years for my goal to come true but it did.

Its a wishing doll.
I gave it to Sofu-sama, (grandfather) last Christmas. You make a wish & color one eye in with a black magic marker. You put it up on a shelf until the wish comes true. Then you color in the other eye. It represents the Bodi Dharma, the Indian monk who came down through China & Korea to Japan bringing the religion of Buddhism to Japan.

No Box
The Daruma itself is just what I was looking for - good quality and perfect size. BUT, I ordered this one over others in part because it was supposed to come in a box so i could give it as a gift. No box. Just a small cellophane bag with twist tie, then bubble wrap.

Cumple
Me parece que el trabajo en la pintura roja puede mejorar, pero cumple y se ve bien

No recomendable.
No me gustó la calidad, y tampoco que se supone que el Daruma Doll regresa siempre a su posición. Y este se queda de lado. Demasiado caro para la calidad del producto.
