She gives you a phrase to work on, with little extras as it goes (laurels and ampersands so far), and each step is broken down into excellent easy to follow examples. Literally, you are never left wondering how she did something or what you need to do to create the same effect. You can finish each chapter in an hour or less, including practicing, designing and coloring the fantastic borders/page designs the author puts in to fit that chapter design. It would be nicer if the book was spiral bound, but it’s not necessary since all of the “do it yourself” pages seem to be on the right side of the page. I’d love to try more from this author after I finish this book. If you are truly looking for a way decompress and also to learn a new skill - this is it. Amy Latta's book not only offers a lot of different lettering looks, but she also teaches you how to draw banners, arrows,swirls, laurel wreaths, and just about anything else you need to feel like you are a super crafty person. I have always been frustrated by not being able to draw, but she really breaks things down intelligently to teach you how to do things in a way that makes sense (at least to my brain). It has been a joy to sit down every night and practice and feel like I have learned and mastered something because of her thoughtful instruction.
