Granted it does go about 30 degrees higher, but when your cooking on the smoke setting of 180, not that big of a difference as I am still below 250. Its like anything else, you have to know how your unit will respond and adjust from there. I haven't had to use lava rocks as I stuff it full of wood chunks. That tends to give me about 3 hours of the smoke that I am wanting. My only complaint is that my PitBoss Austin XL isn't really set up to be convenient to be able to add more wood through the cook, that's my problem to own though. This thing is built like a tank, will outlast my grill, that's for sure. Wood recommend! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great addition for real smoke on pellet grills *by A***R on December 11, 2023* Used mine for the first time on Recteq 590 over the weekend on a rack of ribs. Really didn't check out how to use it since I'm a man, but did set the temp to 375 in order to make sure stick was lit (only used one side/stick since just a rack of ribs) and then dialed back down to 225. No issues with holding temp and plenty of smoke rollin' for the entire cook. Ribs came out great! Can't wait to do some longer, more intense cuts like brisket with this.
