The wife and I use them to get hold of each other when one of us is outdoors working on the property. It's flat terrain and thus far work just fine up to a 1/2 mile distance we tried them. Battery life is pretty good. If used daily good idea to charge them, they have internal lithium rechargeable battery built-in. And they come with a small flashlight built-in which helps when it is dark outdoors. Our other FRS radios ate through batteries and were bigger these do not.
