## Questions & Answers

**Q: I've had a problem with this subwoofer refusing to come out of standby.  Any suggestions?**
A: The S8 does have a minimum volume level before it will "wake up" from standby. If you turn the volume up on the speakers or from the source you're using until you hear the sub kick in, you can then turn the volume back down to where you want it to be and the sub will stay awake.

**Q: would you rather go with cheaper yamaha or polk audio subwoofer that are $100 each?  $350 for audioengine a little overwhelming :)**
A: I don't have a Yamaha or Polk subwoofer so I can't compare. However, I am more than satisfied with the audioengine sub as it provides a very clean and tight bass response that I can feel.

**Q: going to be sitting this on the floor next to my desk ,there is a rug in this room would the rug cause a problem since the speaker is underneath**
A: Actually, the rug makes a good dampener. Mine sits on a tile floor and has a tendency to move around due to the vibration of the downward firing sub.

**Q: Has anyone used the S8 with Audioengine P4 passive speakers? If so, I'm trying to figure out how you interconnect the amp, P4s and S8?**
A: If you want to run the S8 with passive speakers you will have to connect it to your pre amp or amplifier. So your amplifier would need to have an rca out that goes to the S8. What type of amplifier are you using to power the P4s?

Good small Sub to supplement bass down the 40Hz region. Lower than that you need more than 8 inch or you will strain it. Note that the gain is very high, i.e. most of the sources are too loud for it so you need to put the volume very low (at risk of input distorsion). I had to feed the gain through a passive gain control to reduce the input signal strength further down and be able to put the volume half way on the sub. It delivers the "boomy" part well, not so much the "sub-woof" bit (because of its size). Well made and worth the price. Ideal for small-medium rooms

Excellent quality small sub that punches hard. The build quality surprised me. Feels nice and dense, with an almost ceramic shell that's seamless all over.The knobs and switches are all of high quality and the auto start seems to work well.The bass produced is nice and clean, deep, meaty. Doesn't have to be cranked high at all for significant rumble.Placement in my setup was simple, just plonked it on the floor with the port facing my couch.For the money it's so so good, definitely a keeper. Happy!Just be careful picking it up, it's so easy to grab the cone underneath.
