Once running it said there was a newer version and did I want to download & install that? So obviously I did just that.Everything seemed fine during the first backup until it just froze after backing up 444GB of 650GB to a 1TB external drive. I left it for hours but nothing happened so I had to abort the backup and start from scratch, only for it to do the same thing at the same point.After that I decided to uninstall the program and the reinstall from the disk, ignoring the message to install the newer version. Everything worked fine this time and it did a full backup! It looks good, even showing how much is music, pictures, etc.I've marked it down because as backup software you need to put your complete trust in it and it wasn't very reassuring that it failed on the first two back ups. The design of the G.U.I of this utility is uncluttered.* How to learn to use this If you would like to find out how to use this, search within a well - known video sharing website and watch as many as you need. I have bought this for backup and recovery reasons. You can backup a whole partition to the cloud or a USB hard drive. The rule - of - thumb choosing an external hard drive with at a minimum of two times the capacity of your main drive C: To recover you need to before time, create a live media disk or a thumb drive, then change the booting sequence of your PC from drive C: to the cd / DVD drive or thumb drive and this media allows you to recover the backup and restore this back on your drive C: I can back up 260 Gig in 150 minutes. I fully recommend using validation of the backing up to make sure your backup is sound.* Installation To install this software, if you have a previous edition already on your machine, you could use the supplied media disk, or download it and install the previous version. The latter being more - up - to -date. Its given brief instructions in a leaflet. As usual, you are required to make an email account with the company as part of the installation process.If you have a previous edition working, it's easier as more is done for you, such as your email address linking, It's not changed much but I hope bug fixes are built in within the 2018 edition. Our home received a severe electrical power surge and separately, severe multiple virus infections. So in both cases, the backup would have been irretrievably damaged and no use to aid recovery.After a successful backup onto your USB hard drive, i recommend shutting the PC down. When the lights on your PC have to go out, Then disconnect your cables from your USB hard drive. THEN turn your pc back on. This is to prevent data corruption of your valuable backup. I use SLEEP mode when not operating the PC and this is the normal state of my computer.*Tip UpdateI thought I needed to apply this back up recently, and I must have been a bit wound up and became confused and couldn't apply how to use this. You really need to look at the help files with this utility AND view Youtube videos beforehand. It's me being wound up at the time it's required and NOT the utility. I'm backing up to an external drive, even though there's an option to backup to the cloud -- because my internet speed is glacial, especially uploading! I might take days to backup with this slow a connection.What was weird is no option to just download the software from Amazon. They sent a CD-ROM installation disk. Odd, but "whatever", I thought, but when the disk arrived, I couldn't use it to install the product! It started up, but when I clicked "Install" it couldn't find the installation file, even though the file was right where the installer said it was looking! And double-clicking on the installation file itself failed to initiate the installation! Well, that was not helpful at all. After several attempts I gave up and went online to the Acronis website, where I was able to download the installation file, and this time it installed the product, and I got it working with the product key that came with the disk. Very strange to make users go through the hassle of getting installation media through the mail that then doesn't work to install the product.
