It just sits on the crust, the best you get is a scratch on the surface. No complaints! It sliced nicely and did its job. I would not recommend this knife for any kind of cutting though bone. It is perfect for the small job we needed it for but was not very fast (hope that makes sense). You can tell it is not heavy duty. I used to have an electric knife that cut through bone and it finally died. I don't need one anymore except special occasions and this one was fine.
