It promotes plant growth and microbial regeneration in organic filter substrates. Areas of use: Stir mineral salt into water outside the aquarium. Presumably that would be an overload of minerals then** A: I use this with RO water. I do not add any additional minerals in any of my tanks. I have plenty of shrimp, snails and guppies. All healthy and doing well **Q: Does this have to be used in RO water or can it be used in tap water also?** A: It can also be used with tap water if it's TDS is below, for example, 220 ppm for Neocaridina.
