Yerba mate dried has a characteristic smoky taste that many people still associate with the herb. At ECOTEAS, we coined the term “UNSMOKED” to describe our own organic family farm’s exclusive smoke-free 2-stage yerba mate tea drying process. Working together with an Argentine university and a fair trade development fund, we created a unique drying system on our farmer’s land that uses natural gas instead of firewood. The system is far more efficient and clean than any other technology that is currently available. Both stages are 100% smoke-free. YERBA MATE BENEFITS: Minerals to support nervous system function B vitamins to help relax muscles Metabolism Booster Regulates appetite, encouraging a healthy diet Thermogenic - induces the body to burn calories. Provides antioxidants, and amino acids OUR MISSION Support organic agriculture, fair trade, and sustainability. Expand access to healthy, delicious world teas through affordable, fair pricing. Minimize packaging through cutting-edge compostable materials and simplicity of design to deliver exceptional teas with minimal impact on the earth and cost-conscious budgets. OUR STORY ECOTEAS was born of the belief that conscious business has a role to play in restoring balance to the earth and our bodies. Lifelong friends Stefan Schachter, Brendan Girard, and Joseph Chermesino founded ECOTEAS in Ashland, Oregon in the year 2000. In those early years, we packaged our products by hand and served tea at local farmers markets to get the word out. After two decades of service, ECOTEAS remains privately owned and operated by its original founders. ## Features - 100% YERBA MATE UNSMOKED - Unwrapped organic yerba mate tea bags create minimal packaging and waste. This is in contrast to smoked yerba mate , which uses direct heat from wood fires to dry the herb, resulting in a smoked flavor. "Unsmoked" yerba mate has a cleaner, greener flavor. **Q: Would you add sugar to this tea? If not what would you add?** A: Up to you. I would try it by itself first, then add whatever you think you need or would complement the flavor. Sometimes I add a bag of vanilla black tea with it. **Q: Is this green tea?** A: No. The color is more a golden-brown, and it is not smoked. I first tried Mate tea in Peru and it had a smokey flavor and gave me some good energy. This is not smoked and some articles I read said that makes it healthier. The box says it comes from the leaves of a South American rainforest holly tree. Best when brewed in 170 degree water as directed. If you google "Mate Tea", you can learn about the tea in general. **Q: Can I compost the wrapper?** A: I have not heard of anyone tossing used tea bags for compost, I would contact the seller. Or, contact your local nursery. What is in the ground, such as clay, being acidic, etc.can determine the degree organic matter is broken down I bought this product only once, did not like either the taste or the tea bag it came in. ## Frequently Bought Together - ECOTEAS Organic Yerba Mate Tea Bags – Natural Energy & Detox Herbal Tea – Coffee Alternative - Kosher, Non-GMO, Gluten-Free - 100 Unsmoked Bulk Bags, 8.8 oz (Pack of 1) - FGO Organic Roasted Dandelion Root Tea, 100 Count, Eco-Conscious Tea Bags, Resealable Bag, Caffeine Free, Packaging May Vary (Pack of 1) - ECOTEAS Holy Mate!
