J-B Weld 8281 is a professional 10 oz two-part steel reinforced epoxy that creates a permanent bond stronger than steel. It sets in 4-6 hours and fully cures in 15-24 hours, withstanding temperatures up to 550°F. Waterproof and chemical resistant, it works on metal, plastic, wood, concrete, ceramic, and fiberglass, making it the go-to heavy-duty adhesive for durable, versatile repairs.

## Description

J-B Weld is The Original Cold Weld two-part epoxy system that provides strong, lasting repairs to metal and multiple surfaces. Mixed at a ratio of 1:1, it forms a permanent bond and can be shaped, tapped, filed, sanded and drilled after curing. At room temperature, J-B Weld sets in 4-6 hours to a dark grey color. A full cure is reached in 15-24 hours. J-B Weld has a tensile strength of 3960 PSI and sets to a hard bond overnight. It can withstand temperatures up to 550ºF when fully cured.

Review: The original cold weld that never quits - Fixing anything is basically doable with JB weld. This is your new best friend, or old friend in my case. I used it a lot in the past, and I always come back to it for any work around the house. Super glue is fine and all that, but this is the real deal. It’s called weld for a reason: it’s tough, reliable, and practically indestructible once it fully cures. Pros: 1- Massive value for big jobs: this is perfect for large-scale projects where those tiny standard tubes just won't cut it. You get enough volume to handle multiple repairs without worrying about running out mid-mix. 2- Industrial strength: once fully cured, it boasts a tensile strength of 5,020 PSI. It’s essentially "liquid steel" that you can drill, tap, file, and sand just like the metal it’s repairing. 3- High temperature tolerance: it can withstand constant temperatures up 287°C, making it ideal for automotive or plumbing repairs that see significant heat. 4- Universal versatility: while it’s famous for metal-to-metal bonding, it works incredibly well on wood, plastic, tile, PVC, and fiberglass. Overall, this is the gold standard for heavy-duty epoxy. It’s industrial-strength, easy to mix, and consistently delivers a permanent bond. If you want a repair that’s "fixed for good," this is the stuff you want in your toolbox.
Review: Epoxy Works well, 24 hours for full strength, tubes had a lot of air. - J-B Weld 8281 arrived intact. There was no tube leakage and when used appeared fresh. The white and black combo gives a grey final product. I was not sure it would bond with my application. I needed to repair a cheap broken valve at the bottom of a 60 gallon rain barrel. The barrel is a slippery brown plastic. I tried heating the plastic and screwing a threaded galvanized pipe nipple into the plastic but it still leaked. The Epoxy is messy to mix, I used a small flat piece of wood to stir components. Takes 24 hours to thoroughly harden but seems very strong and it stuck well to the plastic barrel and galvanized pipe. It is difficult to get a neat bond but I didn't care about that appearance. The rain barrel is now functional with no leaks, very happy. The Epoxy is a bit expensive and when I opened there was a considerable amount of air (perhaps 1/3 of volume) in each tube so there is less product than you think making it more expensive. I also used it on a small concrete frog statue which had the head broken off. It worked well to make that repair as well. These fixes are only several weeks old so I cannot comment on longevity.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will it work for a stripped-off bolt hole in the engine where the joint/intermediate shaft attaches to the engine- passenger side CV axle?**
A: SURFACE APPLICATIONS: Metal, Plastic & PVC, Wood, Concrete, Ceramic & Tile and Fiberglass.

**Q: can i use it to attach aluminum on plastic?**
A: Only if it is a PVC or ABS plastic. It will not adhere to polypropylene or polyethylene plastics.

**Q: Could this be used to fix a small (1 x 1/4 inch) crack in a dryer drum? Is there danger it will come off on the clothes?**
A: When I have had questions about JB Weld products I have called JB Weld & they have answered with good information. Your problem is special because of the temperature that the drum attains. Ask JB Weld.

**Q: can this product be used to reinforce a rusted iron pipe joint next to a bleeder in a home hot water boiler heating syst. I can not find a replacement**
A: If you can get a good clean surface it might provide some reinforcement but would likely fail if under pressure. I use it inside motors and it is very durable.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fixed broken hinge on cast aluminum grill cover
*by S***P on May 25, 2026*

I had a broken hinge on a built it gas grill. A new grill cover was over $300. J B Weld to the rescue. The repaired hinge is as good as new. If you look closely you can see the cracks, but overall I'm very satisfied with the ease of use and results of the repair
