I even noticed birds stopping by to drink from it during the storm since it was the only thawed water around for miles. **Q: If animals drink all of the water before I refill it,  will the bowl be okay if still plugged in?**
A: Because the bowel is small it often runs out of water.  I have not noticed any problems because of the bowl running dry.

**Q: Does this have a three-prong plug?**
A: no it has a regular two prong plug.
I can tell you that I love mine. I feed stray outside kitties, and it always kept the water thawed completely. a great item!

**Q: Would this work for chickens?**

This heated water bowl is AMAZING. The size is perfect and truly ideal for dogs of all sizes. We have a Labrador, and I only need to refill it about every other day, which is super convenient.
