This will work great in a fireplace, assuming it breathes well. People all over the world have and do cook out of fireplaces for centuries. In the US we have lost much of our innate sensibilities. Yes, you will need to mind the amount of fat coming from the cooking items but if you are mindful you will be fine. **Q: Would this product be suitable to place on top of a gas grill's existing grates?
