I'll admit my decision was swayed by the addition of Mask of the Phantasm and Sub-Zero. I think I made the right choice. I've owned many episodes on VHS and dvd and have to say this is the most beautiful rendition of this near perfect animated series I've ever seen. Yes the colours pop, and it maybe loses a little of the grubby charm of older versions, but there are details I'd missed and it loses none of it's grim atmosphere. The sound is fantastic, the orchestration and soundtrack much more expansive. Yes, as others have commented, there are moments where the image blurs a little, but this was not enough to impair my enjoyment as a whole. As to the complaints of it not being 'upgraded' to wide-screen format, this is a misguided notion, as the original format this series was broadcast in was 4:3. Consider the fact, wide-screen TVs were not readily available when this show was first released. In those days, people use to complain about the 'letterbox' effect when watching wide-screen films. so there was never a 16:9 image to recover, and you can't just add to the sides of the picture, so I'm not sure what these people expect. In order to 'upgrade' these shows to 16:9 you would either have to stretch, or crop the image, either of which would be severely detrimental. Watch it in a dark room, you won't notice.
