Review: Great balance of protection, comfort, and sound quality - These have been excellent range muffs and I'm very happy with the purchase. The electronic hearing protection does exactly what it's supposed to do: loud sounds are suppressed while quieter sounds and conversations remain easy to hear. That's especially useful at public ranges where hearing range commands and safety instructions is important, or when I'm shooting with my wife and don't want to constantly remove hearing protection to communicate. One of the reasons I chose these over the Walker's Razor series was the number of reviews suggesting that the sound passthrough and overall audio quality were noticeably better. After using them, I think those reviews were probably right. The sound reproduction feels natural and conversations are easy to understand. What I like: * effective suppression of gunfire * clear amplification of voices and ambient sounds * comfortable for extended range sessions * intuitive controls * good overall value Comfort has also been good. I've worn them through several hours of shooting without issue. I could see them becoming uncomfortable during an all-day event, but for typical range sessions they've been perfectly acceptable. In terms of protection, I generally use them by themselves when shooting handguns and rimfire firearms. For larger centerfire rifles, especially when shooting near other people with muzzle brakes or high-volume rifles, I still prefer to double up with foam plugs underneath. That's more about my personal hearing protection philosophy than a criticism of the earmuffs. I also own a pair of Axil MXIIs, and in terms of pure performance I don't notice a dramatic difference between the two. If I had to pick a winner, I actually prefer the button layout and controls on the Walkers. The Axils have the advantage of being rechargeable, but the Walkers are easier for me to operate while wearing them. Overall, these feel like a meaningful step up from the entry-level electronic earmuffs without jumping into premium-price territory. If you're looking for electronic hearing protection with good sound quality, solid protection, and comfortable all-around performance, these are easy to recommend. The review is about the Xcel 100, but the only difference between the model 100 and the model 500 is the blue Tooth capability. The 100 model does NOT come with Blue Tooth capability, the 500 does. Everything else is the same, so the review applies to both models. **Q: any issues with breaking the seal on cheek when shooting shotgun or rifle?** A: No I haven’t had any of that to happen **Q: Can the bluetooth talk on the phone?** A: Yes, it can. Call quality is acceptable but not great. You can set them to allow safe level noises in or block everything out. All while listening to music or taking calls. I can hear my wife talking to me perfectly while it blocks out the sound of the blower. It's pretty crazy. I love these things! **Q: What is the Noise Reduction Rating for these muffs?** A: There is no NRR rating for this item listed on Walker's web site! However, several other sites have it listed at 26- same as the Bluetooth version! It's been stated that printed noise reductions ratings are supposed to be "less" than the tested capability. If true, these should be around 28 but again, all sites that sell this item have them listed as 26. Keep a set of foam plugs handy if these don't provide sufficient noise reduction!!! ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great balance of protection, comfort, and sound quality *by N***V on June 9, 2026* These have been excellent range muffs and I'm very happy with the purchase. A little bulky. *by B***D on March 31, 2026* Great price, (if you get them in orange), they work well and are easy to set up. They work well, easily connect to a phone and are convenient. Of course, they block loud noise, gunshots, effectively. The only criticism is that they are a bit on the bulky side (otherwise I would have given them 5 stars) ## Frequently Bought Together - Walker's Digital Electronic Muff-26db Nrr Noise Protection Sound Enhancement Shooting Safety Earmuff, 2 AAA Batteries - Walker's Muff Protective Case | Weather-Resistant Durable Shockproof Dustproof EVA Carbon Finish Hunting Range Shooting Earmuff Carrying Case, Nylon Lanyard - Walker's Gel Ear Pads for Razor & XCEL Hearing Protection Earmuffs | Increased Sealing Snap-On Easy Installation Cooling Gel Filled Black Ear Cup Replacement Pad --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/70805387-walker-s-xcel-digital-electronic-hearing-protection-earmuffs-with-bluetooth](https://www.desertcart.co.za/products/70805387-walker-s-xcel-digital-electronic-hearing-protection-earmuffs-with-bluetooth) --- *Product available on Desertcart South Africa* *Store origin: ZA* *Last updated: 2026-10-25*
