What I didn't understand was that the effectiveness is determined by the number of 'ppm'. I originally order a bottle of 30 ppm, used it when I felt the start of a cold sore, and nothing happened. I also gargled with it for a sore throat, but it didn't stop it, so I did some research and found that 30 ppm isn't strong enough to do what I was trying to accomplish. When I found this 500 ppm item, I ordered it to see if there was a difference in the results of using it. I initially used it on a cut on my leg from a really dirty piece of tin that had been lying around. I was concerned about infection, but the cut wasn't deep enough to need a doctor's attention. I put the silver on a couple of cotton squares and then put them over the cut. Within 3 days, the cut had almost healed and there was no sign of infection. My next use was for a cold/sore throat. I initially thought the symptoms were from an allergy, so I didn't use the silver until a couple of days after the onset. I then started gargling and spraying a "silver mist" in my nose and within 2 days, I was feeling almost back to normal, instead of feeling badly for 7-10 days. I strongly suggest that you want to do research before you ingest the 500 ppm on a continuing basis - I wouldn't do that personally, but using this strength topically is great and effective.
