I bought the left-handed version because my son is right handed and I am, well, left handed. I write quite a bit as I am a student studying for my PhD. I have been getting hand cramps when using the inexpensive, straight, skinny pens that come 12 or 15 to a pack. I needed something that would not hurt my hands when used for extended writing sessions. I find that if I hold the pen with my fingertips in the appropriate indentations my hand stays more relaxed than with the skinny pens. I am sure this is the way I was taught to hold a pencil and pen way back when I was in elementary school (the early '60s) but my grip has changed over the years. After a couple of sessions with this pen the grip felt natural and my hand felt relaxed while writing. I think the balance of the pen contributes to this relaxation, too. The pen feels like it is weighted towards the writing end. I took off one star because the actual ink cartridges do not always produce a consistent flow of ink. Sometimes I get a lighter line, almost as if the ball in the "ball point" gets stuck or hung up. I can still read the writing, mind you, but this occasional blip is annoying when writing in the margins of books or when making notes on post-its to insert into books. Maybe it is the paper in the books and in the post-its that cause the blips. I don't know for sure. Anyway, using this pen has been a very positive experience, overall. I can write for longer periods of time without hand pain or discomfort. And, the other students in my program keep asking where I got such a neat pen. It doesn't hurt, and I get compliments on it.
