If you are someone who is in ok physical condition with no back or spine issues, the utility of this product may be minimal.I run a mixed martial arts gym with a number of competitive fighters. Core work outs are a huge part of their conditioning. Many core exercises put strain on the lower back when that is not the muscle group they wish to focus. For doing sit ups, leg raises, crunches, and similar exercises, the power core ab mat allows for a great amount of repetitions. I let 2 of my amateur fighters use this for the last few weeks and they all said it allowed them to execute a great amount of crunches in particular.For my non competitive members, while they said it made such exercises more comfortable, they wouldn't see themselves needing one. We have different brands of ab mats at the gym that I have used regularly over the years so I am very familiar with their use. I got this one to use at home but I brought it with me to test on site at the gym rather than at home. I wanted to make sure I was using it under the most realistic conditions for comparison purposes (ie - on site rather than in my living room floor)This ab mat comes in a variety of logo colors, which is a fun option (I chose blue). It is great quality, well made and a bit on the firm side. I didn't think I was going to like that firmness but my 1st workout with it changed my mind completely. I have been doing CrossFit for 6 years; most of what we do in the gym is for speed. An ab mat protects your back/spine and allows you to have leverage when doing sit ups. The firmness actually ended up being a bonus! The firmness gave me a BIG boost in my speed because I was not "sinking" into the mat like I do with the standard inventory of mats at my gym. I flew through all the sit ups in my workout much faster than I normally would.
