I believe it is 1 piece. I’ve not taken the hand wrap off to check for welding or soldering marks. **Q: Is it sharp** A: No they are not but still dangerous **Q: Does the black paint coating chip off?** A: The finish is excellent, but any painted steel surface will eventually chip with hard enough impacts. I have a couple of chips from steel on steel impacts that are about 1mm in size barely noticeable. **Q: Are they strong enough for self defense and not just training?** A: If necessary, yes. They are blunted, not sharp, but sturdy. Not sure why this would be your go-to self defense choice. Not practical to carry around. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ good as it gets *by G***O on July 8, 2024* Perfect Sais! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good quality *by J***R on June 1, 2023* Good weight nice finish ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great value for price *by R***N on April 29, 2022* They feel good in the hands, the weight is nice, the material is sturdy.
