It's easy to wash but never gets gross in the first place. (I've tried replacing the band and have returned to the original band every time too). Backlight is fine. I love the orange. Better than average for a Casio since it has multiple (two) LEDs, but not quite as good as their EL backlight. I absolutely love this watch and this color combination is uncommon.
