Yes I have some expensive equipment but when it came to outfitting my garage, I needed to take a different approach. So I started with the online reviews. The WiiM amp got mixed reviews from the audiophile sect. But wait a minute, this only sets you back $300 not thousands. So shouldn’t it be judged based on its cost benefit? I say yes. Therefore I give this device a full five stars. I think its performance is dam good. Pairing with the right speakers is key. It does many things very well. Great sonics, clarity, adequate power, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, a really good App, and a solid build. Another feature is its remote, and the number of music streams it supports. I think I love this compact amp. So now, what speakers? I chose Polk Atrium 6 and it was a match made in heaven for my two bay garage. Not to say that this amp won’t satisfy the indoor audio needs of most. Be careful in selecting you speakers. Look for a high sensitivity in the speakers performance specifications. You will get the most out of the amps power. So I started this journey today and will update as time goes on. Right now, I give the WiiM amp a high recommendation for its price point. It is musical, compact, well made, ample connectivity, and won’t break the bank. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Versatile and affordable. Excellent in small and midsize rooms. A great Chromecast solution. *by on Reviewed in the United States May 13, 2026* I have been circling around this Wiim Amp for months now after reading comments all over the Internet. I've been making do with a Google TV + Chromecast dongle plugged into a Yamaha AV Receiver. My extensive digital music collection can be served up by Plex or SqueezeServer/Lyrion. And I stream dynamic playlists I created for a variety of moods and listening circumstances. But the Google dongle randomly stops playing when fed music streams. Annoying! I also wanted a more "lightweight" audio center at my desk. Then the Wiim Amp made more and more sense. From my PC, I have plugged an audio mini to RCA cable into the Wiim Amp. The Wiim Amp quickly "announced" itself to Google Home. I have been streaming music-- uninterrupted-- via Chromecast/Google Cast! How about the audio? I am not playing heavy metal. But I commonly listen to Jazz, Classical, Old School Soul, Classic Rock; Folk. For test purposes, I just put on a Debussy symphony. The dynamic range is impressive. I am pleased with the clarity and openness. That's been true for that symphony and Miles Davis. And Hendrix.A few tips if you're considering the Wiim Amp:1) Get yourself a self-powered subwoofer. This will not only provide the low end of the music spectrum. It will also offload a lot of output power from the Wiim Amp, lending more ooomph to the rest of the audible range through your speakers. So you can get more dynamic range and/or possibly get somewhat more power hungry speakers. The subwoofer doesn't have to be terribly fancy. Mine is a Monoprice 8248 with 8" driver. I got it on sale but even at the list price it ably does the job. (The Polk PSW10 is quite good for just a bit more.)2) Be realistic about the speakers you harness to this amp. I'm using discontinued JBL Loft30 mini bookshelf speakers that punch way over their weight class. There are many others that can work as well.3) Don't expect this to rock out at high volumes into large rooms. You might skate past the ceiling imposed by 60 watts @ 8 ohms. (But if you happen to find 4 ohm speakers, the lower impedence will enable higher output from this amp.)4) The Wiim amp recognizes all the major music streaming services. So you don't have to build a massive in-home music library.Important notes:1) This does not have a headphone jack. But you can plug in a very low priced USB-based dongle headphone amp.2) This does not have a phono pre-amp. So if you're a vinyl freak, this might push you over the line. If I were in that position, I'd probably consider other equipment rather than getting a separate phono preamp.Bottom line: it's possible to put together a very satisfying system without breaking the bank.
