She doesn't quite understand that she needs to hold it in her mouth (again - never took to a pacifier), but if I hold it for her, biting down on the teeth plate really seems to give her some relief. Enough relief that she is more likely to take a bottle. The plate is also great to put some OraGel on, so she can essentially apply it herself. As an attempt to help see if your kiddo has similar taste to mine - my kiddo likes chewing on crocheted fabric (she has a crocheted rattle and stuffed animal that she loves), terry cloth, teething rings on occasion, and the Nuby Silicone teether. If she's fussing from teething I give her one of these Pacifier teethers, then the Nuby Silicone teether, and she seems to calm down quite a bit. They would take them out of their mouth and chew on the handle part. My baby is used to sucking, so trying to bite on something they don't have teeth for is kinda redundant. Your baby has to have the capability to "bite down" (or gum down without sucking) to keep this in their mouth. The idea is there, but the functionality is absent. Maybe this is more appropriate for a larger toddler as the pacifier itself is large. (Think of a retainer).
