I have washed it in the washing machine and then put in dryer quite a bit. It has held up a long time. The outer cover has a soft silky polyester feel. It is just now needing to be replaced because of a little hole in the seam. It has been great. That's why I'm replacing it with another microbead ( tiny beads of Styrofoam like material ) pillow. It has lasted very well. **Q: is it easy to fold back in forth between shapes?** A: I bought this for my 11 year old and he seems to love transitioning from shape to shape--doesn't have any trouble.
