I happen to have all metal monitor stands and the bases of the monitors are also made of a ferrous metal. This little magnetic stand easily and securely hold the web cams in place. I believe it would work great with most of the action cams as well. I prefer my web cams to be below the monitor rather than above. It looks like I'm stairing at the ceiling when the cameras are on top.
