It is brushed motor and I did test it. It runs fine. 12vdc 18 amps. Review: The motors are very strong and require a lot of current. These do not work with the IBT_2 Motor controllers. I replaced the sprocket with an 11 tooth 35# sprocket. I had to drill out the bore with an 11mm bit, but they seem to work great. Comes with bike chain sprocket so if you are using it for a project it can be a little tricky to find an accompanying sprocket but chains are plentiful. I am using it to rotate the chute on my snowblower, the only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because it doesn't seem to be really robust, but for the price it works really well.
