Is it good for a tall person ? 6'3" ?

To be honest, this model is just too fragile for any significant weed whacking use. Mine bent (half-way between the bottom of the handle & the angle in the metal) from moderate use. That happened twice and now it is only good for thin grass. They just don't make them like they used to. It's about the length of a 9-iron. But, infinitely weaker metal.

Would this work on thick ivy?

Mine pulled off the handle within days of starting to use it in my yard. If handle wasn't broken, you would have to sharpen it for ivy.

anybody know the difference between this & those where blade is attached at both ends (sometimes called 'weed cutter')? Is one better than t'other?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by blade being attached at both ends. Sounds scary (*smile*). In case you weren't tracking, this has serrated edges on both sides of the blade (left and right) and is also referred to as a weed cutter. I'm quite satisfied with this product.

Does this come with blade cover?

It does not come with a cover. As an aside, I’m 6’1” (in my 60’s) —- I don’t use this much because it’s too short and I have to bend over to use it —- it strains my back.
